Russian troops advance in Ukraine as Kyiv runs low on air defenses

Source: Washington Post

KYIV — As Ukrainian officials plead for more Western arms and a U.S. aid package remains stalled in Congress, Russia is advancing on the battlefield in eastern Ukraine, seizing new territory and intensifying attacks to capture the town of Chasiv Yar and others in the Donetsk region.

Away from the front line, Ukraine’s dwindling air defense capabilities are showing vulnerabilities, as more Russian missiles and drones are able to hit targets such as critical infrastructure facilities.

Outside Kyiv — considered Ukraine’s best-protected city — the largest power plant serving the capital was destroyed Thursday, stoking concerns that Ukraine might be running out of surface-to-air missiles to counter the Russian airstrikes.

“We need air defense systems and other defense assistance, not just turning a blind eye and having lengthy discussions,” President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

How much Russian money has gotten into Congress? Also, I bet Taiwan is looking warily at the US. If it is taking this long for Ukraine, what about Taiwan? China has not stopped wanting Taiwan to be recaptured as its own.

A "champion for Ukraine" to push the aid through. Time to sh*t or get get off the pot, congress. Stop killing Ukrainians.

This is much more than an embarrassment to the U.S. It's a disgrace of epic proportion.

Or business men to run the country. The latest numbers have over 600,000 Ukrainian soldiers severely injured or dead - and more than 650,000 military age men left the country - many are in Germany. People are discussing having immigrants come into the country to fill jobs.

“650,000 draft-age men left Ukraine during the war — report”
The UN High Commissioner for Refugees previously reported that since the start of the full-scale war, approximately 6.3 million people have fled Ukraine. BBC Ukraine, referring to an analysis of Eurostat information, writes that according to open-source data, 4.2 million Ukrainians have received temporary protections in the EU, with 18.3% (768,000) being men aged 18 to 64. BBC Ukraine reports Exxpress obtained data on men aged 18 to 60.“. https://news.yahoo.com/650-000-draft-age-men-233000754.html

7. Those few Republicans that accuse their fellow Republicans of being Putin allies?

They are probably understating the situation. The Republicans who vote Putin's will are, I would bet, not Putin's allies, but his paid employees.

9. If feckless Republicans won't defend democracy at home, why would they defend it abroad?

Republicans demonstrate daily that they have no use for democracy -- except to use the mechanisms of democracy against democracy itself.
