'Rust' armorer Hannah Gutierrez to be sentenced for fatal on-set shooting

Source: ABC News

"Rust" armorer Hannah Gutierrez is set to be sentenced on Monday for involuntary manslaughter in the 2021 fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the New Mexico set.

She faces up to 18 months in prison for the felony conviction.

Her attorneys asked for probation in a sentencing memorandum filed last week, citing her "complete lack of prior criminal history" and "relative youth." Prosecutors meanwhile requested a sentence of 18 months with the designation of serious violent offender due to her "extreme recklessness" while working as an armorer on the "Rust" set.

The Santa Fe County jury deliberated for under three hours on March 6 before reaching a split verdict. They found her guilty of involuntary manslaughter but acquitted her of tampering with evidence in the case.

For skewering the Orange Horror on SNL. Someone on the set was a cultist and decided to replace the squibs with real bullets, figuring that Baldwin would not know the difference and harm himself or someone else. The young, inexperienced armorer may have been in on the plot, or may be the fall guy.

There were reports of inappropriate use of those pistols with live ammo for ad-hoc target practice. But I hope Mr Baldwin is held to account, he pointed the gun at someone doing a setup for a camera shot, which is never supposed to happen on set.

His finger or any other object would have worked and been OK by movie set standards. I'm blaming him for running a non union job with not enough staff and a very chaotic set culture.

your opinion is what I've always thought since this story broke. It's exactly the kind of retribution *rump would demand after Baldwin's skit on SNL. And we know *rump hated SNL because he was always the butt of everyone's jokes... and he made no bones about how he felt. The fact Baldwin did so well at it probably popped a few blood vessels for *rump, given how he acted after Obama made his joke. No... *rump is too thin skinned and narcissistic to let this pass without trying for some type of retribution. Whether or not the armorer is more or less guilty than anyone else, I'm not going to comment about. I have no experience or knowledge enough to make an informed opinion. But the way the case went, from the accident onwards, sure has *rumps impreteur on it.

but I read that it was another crew member who checked the gun and said "cold gun" when he handed it to Baldwin.

what the procedure is on a movie set, or who is in charge of making sure everybody who is supposed to be there is indeed there. I had had that the set for this movie was particularly disorganized and lax. I don't know how easy it will be to sort out responsibility for that. If Baldwin had been throwing his weight around and intimidating people who might have spoken up about issues on set, then I suppose he must share the blame.
