On trial off-day, Trump complains about jury selection process for his criminal case
Source: NBC News
Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday ripped the jury selection process for his historic New York criminal trial, the day after the first seven jurors were selected out of a pool of nearly 100 people.
Posting about the hush money trial on its scheduled off-day, Trump who has repeatedly accused the judge in the case of being biased against him suggested incorrectly that he should be entitled to unlimited strikes of potential jurors in his criminal case.
I thought STRIKES were supposed to be 'unlimited' when we were picking our jury? I was then told we only had 10, not nearly enough when we were purposely given the 2nd Worst Venue in the Country," he wrote in a post on Truth Social, before decrying the criminal cases against him as "election interference" and part of a "witch hunt."
Under New York law, each side does have an unlimited number of strikes for cause, but the judge presiding over the case, Juan Merchan, can decide whether or not that cause is worthy of a strike.

(10,226 posts)I think that would be the case if he had to be in court every day. If he gets days off, including weekends, he might last longer than Id expect.

(1,046 posts)The last jury selection I was on took all day (from 10-4:30) to seat 12 and alternates from a pool of about 200. I was never called to the box so I got to see the whole thing. This was for a small drug and gun case; obviously, nobody knew the defendant.
For them to have seated 7 already in the Trump case means jury selection will possibly be completed by the end of this week, by next week at the latest. Every time a part of the process is completed Trump gets more nervous. He wanted to make jury selection into a major delay, and it's just not happening.

(42,737 posts)Most defendants, if they had a question about the void dire process and the number of jurors that can be challenged and on what basis those challenges can be made, would ask their attorneys to explain it to them. All three possibilities -- he doesn't ask, he can't understand, or he willfully misstates seem equally likely.

(11,364 posts)Absolutely all trump does is whine and sob and complain about how unfair it is that he has to pay for his endless crimes. I have never in my life seen such a childish, worthless piece of nothing as this ahole. God, how I hope he leaves us soon.
