Trump lawyers tell Mar-a-Lago judge it's 'virtually impossible task' to juggle hush-money trial defense

Source: Law & Crime

Apr 18th, 2024, 10:18 am

Donald Trump’s defense lawyers reiterated their demand to push back key Mar-a-Lago case deadlines, calling it a “virtually impossible task” to handle the hush-money trial and the “critical stage” of the Espionage Act case simultaneously. The Thursday filing from Christopher Kise, Todd Blanche, and Emil Bove maintained that U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon should move a CIPA § 5(a) Notice deadline until three weeks after Trump’s expected six-week New York trial ends.

As Law&Crime explained earlier in the week, the Department of Justice describes a CIPA § 5(a) Notice as the “linchpin” of the Classified Information Procedures Act, a statute that lays out how to guard classified information while using it in a criminal proceeding.

In a weekend filing, special counsel Jack Smith emphasized the “importance” of the “crucial” CIPA § 5(a) Notice in “getting the case to trial,” as the notice will reveal whether the Trump defense intends to use classified materials obtained through discovery “in any manner in connection with any trial or pretrial proceeding[.]”

Smith asserted that the Trump team “must stop” pushing “reflexively” for more delays whenever Cannon sets a deadline. He implored the Mar-a-Lago judge to keep the May 9 CIPA § 5(a) Notice and expert witness disclosure deadlines in place, arguing that the defense has had months to meet the deadlines and should not be rewarded with “open-ended” delay based on Trump choosing to have the same lawyers defend him in the Mar-a-Lago and New York criminal cases.

His policy of running multiple criminal enterprises at the same time is not the court's fault.

Alternate headline: Trumpy lawyers admit his behavior is indefensible!

Maybe he needs a public defender. By the sounds of it he’s almost out of lupins. At this point he’s rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic in terms of dollar bills.

But this is Cantaloupe Caligula, who must be handled with kid gloves at all times. And most importantly, this is Aileen “Loose” Cannon, HIS judge, who’s shown almost nothing but bias for Agent Orange.

Now every person in America who allegedly committed a crime or was charged with one should all hire the same legal team.
That would work real well for what's left of justice.

Also...every corporation should do the same. Good times!

Trump has committed so many crimes that his lawyers don't have time for them all, so all his trials should be delayed. If this works he should just go out and commit 10 more crimes in 10 different states, then he'll probably die of old age before any of them make it to trial.

of lawyers for the totally separate and unconnected case, apparently. Why does he even have that many lawyers anyway? By their swamped/overworked/conflicts argument he could get even more delays by firing half of the ones he does have!

Think. Again.

Thats ridiculous. There are only so many damn questions you can ask a person.
The only case that should be lengthy is the classified docs case since there are SO many pieces to it

He'll get this trial done quickly.

He maybe our best hope in sidelining Trump before November.

The ditzy judge in Florida is going to stall and stall.

After listening to the Fischer case, I think SCOTUS will strike the obstruction charge in the other Jack Smith case.

Trump goes to jail in this case. Probably due to contempt and then once this strong-looking jury finds him guilty on multiple felony charges.

Even if convicted on all counts, he' a first offender. He also gets secret service protection for life & they're not going to put THEM in jail. Hose arrest is best we can hope for.
We'll see as his contempt of court actions increase every day; will the judge just fine him (which he cares nothing about) or jail him?
I'm not holding my breath. But hoping I have to come back here & post "I was wrong"
