Florida Dems Try Blunt Tactic to Achieve Fundraising High

Source: Daily Beast

Published Apr. 20, 2024 12:50PM EDT

Even by the aggressive standards of political fundraising, the Florida Democratic Party is trying a blunt tactic.

In honor of 4/20, the unofficial stoner holiday that falls on Saturday, Florida Democrats are selling branded marijuana rolling papers on their website. For $4.20, high-minded Democrats can purchase two sets of rolling papers emblazoned with the slogan, “I roll with Florida Dems,” with the “o” in Florida replaced by a marijuana leaf.

Notably, Florida is part of a rapidly decreasing number of states that has not yet legalized marijuana for recreational purposes. Without an official medical marijuana card, possessing pot can still carry criminal penalties and hefty fines in the Sunshine State.

But this year, Florida voters will have a chance to legalize recreational weed at the ballot box, thanks to the state Supreme Court allowing a referendum in this year’s elections. But at least 60 percent of Florida voters will need to approve the referendum in order for it to become law, and early polls have indicated nowhere near that level of support.

I’m not sure how I’ll vote for recreational. I’ve literally never tried it and too old now (54). We’re trying to get smokers to quit cigarettes. I’m not sure it’s wise to bring in another form of smoking. Leaning towards no.

Edibles (gummies, baked into things like brownies and cookies) are being sold many places. Stuff that was not thought about when I was young and partaking - though I did bake some great brownies once and made some killer loaded granola.

So smoking is not the only way to get your THC these days.

Not sure what you're getting at.

But I will say - people do not smoke weed like they smoke cigarettes. Also, it's consumed in gummies and other edibles - frequently more commonly.

Don't chop off people's right to innocent recreation because you don't know anything about it - please!

(sigh)... I wonder if we, in Kansas, will ever have the chance to legalize it in any form here. Our news was the KBI warning about not carrying it back from any of the states around us because they'd have extra patrols out. Damned, hard nosed Xtian fascists!

The Southern states will be the last to legalize recreational pot. But eventually it'll be legal everywhere. They can't stop it forever.
