WILMINGTON, North Carolina, April 20 (Reuters) - U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump canceled a campaign rally in Wilmington, North Carolina, on Saturday because of an incoming storm, but told the crowd he would return at a later date.

Trump told the crowd to leave immediately because of safety concerns as lightning flashed at the rally site.

"I'm devastated that this could happen but we want to keep everybody safe," Trump told the crowd, his voice relayed to loudspeakers at the outdoor rally at an airport in the presidential battleground state. Trump was calling in from his private jet about a half hour before he was set to take the stage.

The event was due to take place after the first week of his hush money trial in New York.

Some municipalities have been making him pay up front because he's stiffed too many of them. Add in the fact that half of the money coming into his campaign coffers is going straight to paying the legal fees of his White House Crime Spree, and he can't afford to hold rallies.

67. Yep. And here's an interesting article about those legal fees...
Sun Apr 21, 2024, 07:05 PM
Apr 21
A PAC controlled by former President Donald Trump that has devoted tens of millions of dollars to his and his allies’ legal bills could be running out of cash after spending nearly $3.7 million on legal fees in March.

Save America, Trump’s leadership PAC, has now spent $59.5 million on legal consulting since the start of 2023. It also incurred $886,000 in new legal debt in March, according to a report filed with the Federal Election Commission late Saturday. More than $1.1 million of its March spending went toward two firms representing Trump in his New York criminal hush money trial.

The total spent on legal expenses for Save America was almost as much as Trump’s campaign committee in the month of March, highlighting how legal troubles have sucked up the cash of his political operation. Trump’s official campaign committee spent just over $3.7 million in March, with travel expenses, followed by payroll, occupying its biggest expenditure categories.

51. Maybe, although supercell thunderstorms are not that common in Central or Southern Florida
Sun Apr 21, 2024, 12:55 AM
Apr 21

Most of the severe weather occurs in Northern Florida, especially in the Florida Panhandle where there is more continental mass. Most severe weather/tornadoes, if they do occur, usually are part of a larger line from frontal systems. But if it were to occur, it wouldn't be just the tornado.

Supercells can affect weather up to 20 miles away. Also. supercells in the South tend to be more dangerous because many of them are what are called HP or high-precipitation supercells. The rain can wrap around the tornado and you wouldn't be able to see it. But in most cases, the most common severe weather threat are high winds. Hail is actually rare in Florida because the freezing level altitude in which hail can form is much higher. I've been in Florida since 2015 and I have never seen a tornado or hail. But I guess if you wanted to go more localized, another way is a storm train. It's when heavy thunderstorms go over the same area again and again like a multi-car freight train goes over the same area of track. Usually it brings immense rain, sometimes over a foot. An example is the floods in West Virginia. But either way, the weather wasn't having it with Trump in North Carolina.

Trump rambles incoherently back, "You are right, the storm is bigly and I am all about safety...so go home patriots. I am telling you to go home. I never told the J6 Patriots what I am telling you. I could have, but I didn't. Leave now. There is a storm and it is really scary. Scary, scary, big storm. Some say it is the biggest storm ever. But I am safe and dry in my private jet. So...giant storm like in that documentary, Twister, with Helen Hunt. Safety first. This is the deep state trying to keep you from hearing my beautiful words. I love you all. We will do it again, minus the giant storm and it will be amazing and better. Soon, like my plan to replace Obamacare, probably come back in a week or two. Three at the most. Crooked Hillary, Sleepy Joe, Hunter Biden's Laptop. Witch hunt. Deep State. I am suffering like Jesus, but somehow more so than even he ever could. God bless." (Sounds of snoring and farting).

End scene.

OMFG, did I just say I agreed with TSF sbout something?!? 😱

Seriously, though, if there was lightning, he was right to gtfo and tell his fans to do the same. It's actually dangerous to stay outside when there's lightning going on. I would gtfo myself in that situation. It's really not safe to be out in the open when those zigzaggy lines start shooting out of the sky.

This says something about how broke his campaign is, though, that he can evidently no longer afford to rent an indoor facility for his little ego trip sessions rallies. (Either that, or he stiffed so many places in the past that no one will rent anything to him but an open field now, which would also say something about him ).

Either way, his campaign is a joke at this point in time. Too bad, so sad!

He really is unbelievably pathetic. When so many people are barely scraping by, It's nauseating to see someone born into that kind of wealth and privilege squander it all away just to feed his gargantuan ego.

When you think about it, almost oerything he's ever done, including all the criming, has been done because of that. He couldn't "just" be rich; he had to bend over backwards to constantly make himself look richer and more important by falsifying business records AND lying about things like the size of his triplex at Trump Tower and the value of his various properties. He couldn't just sit back and enjoy his luxurious life; he HAD to run for potus, because nothing else was good enough for him.

And he might have gotten away with most of it if he hadn't felt compelled to 1) run for potus in 2016 and 2) refuse to accept his loss in 2020 like a normal person would. Which led to lots of additional criming. Now he's trying to juggle a floundering political campaign while defending himself in what's probably just the first of his many criminal trials.

I know some still think he's going to get away with everything, but I don't agree. He's already being punished by being forced to sit in that courtroom day after day, where he is being treated like a mere mortal and where he will soon be forced to listen to a litany of just some of his wrongdoings without being able to say a word in protest.

This isn't going to be his last trial, either. He is NOT going to win in November, and all of the other trials WILL proceed (with the possible exception of the one Judge Loose Cannnon is trying to sabotage).

I don't personally even care if he ever goes to prison. I just want him to be convicted, to be known henceforth as convicted felon Donald Trump. That alone will be huge. After being convicted in the current trial, he will officially be not just a loser, but one of the biggest losers ever. That is a fate worse than death for him, and he'll be miserable for whatever's left of his sorry life, whether he spends it beind bars or in home confinement.

Novara

(5,852 posts)
64. ALL of it is because of his insecurity
Sun Apr 21, 2024, 05:54 PM
Apr 21

ALL of it. All the criming all of his life, including in the White House and again after it - all of it is because he is a deeply insecure loser who can't accept being less than and he can't accept losing because of his deep, deep insecurity. No one can have anything bigger or better than he does. All of that is driven by insecurity, which is masked by ego. But look behind the ego and you can see it. Look behind the scenes of ANY egotist and what you see is insecurity.

If Obama hadn't made fun of him and the entire world laughed at him at that Corespondent's Dinner, he probably would never have had Putin help him into the presidency. And he HAD to have help because there was no way he was going to win on his merits - he has none. And if his insecurity didn't push him into public office, his whole life wouldn't have been opened up and scrutinized. It's his own doing.

So all of this is the fault of his ego/insecurity. He has fucked up the entire country because of his ego/insecurity. He brought the racist, misogynist, hateful out from under their rocks and blessed them. Now they make life hell for others, and they do it with such belligerent glee. That's all his fault and it's because he's so damn insecure. The hateful have always been among us. But they used to mostly keep quiet because it wasn't acceptable to be so hateful in public. He made it acceptable. And they are such utter assholes.

I would rather see him dead than in prison, frankly, so I hope the stress of the trial causes a massive coronary. But on second thought, convict him first. I want him to live with the fact of being a convicted felon. I'd rather see him convicted in several venues for all of his crimes.

It must have been absolutely miserable to sit in court last week and hear prospective jurors' negative feelings about him. Good. He surrounds himself with sycophants; it's about damn time he hears how real people feel about him.
