CNN Donald Trump will meet Tuesday with former Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso, the deputy head of Japans ruling Liberal Democratic Party, two campaign officials told CNN.
The meeting will take place at Trump Tower in New York after the former presidents appearance in court for his hush money trial. Trump has in recent weeks increasingly met with foreign leaders, who have sought to bolster ties as polls continue to show an tight general election contest between him and President Joe Biden.
Meetings and calls from world leaders reflect the recognition of what we already know here at home. Joe Biden is weak, and when President Trump is sworn in as the 47th President of the United States, the world will be more secure and America will be more prosperous, Trump senior campaign adviser Brian Hughes said.
The Trump-Aso meeting, which was first reported by Reuters, comes after Biden hosted Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida earlier this month at the White House for a state visit, during which the president touted the US-Japan alliance as being stronger than its ever been and announced new plans for military cooperation with the country.

(2,841 posts)to me right now. I guess after a certain level, the Logan act has gone the way of the Hatch Act. I'm so incensed that they're allowing *rump to do all these world leader meetings... months prior to the election. This is all so compromising of election integrity, IMO. Not -just- the meetings, per se... but the allowing these meetings with no rebuttal or issues raised by the Democrats. People assume this is normal. It has never been "normal" prior to *rump. And it furthers conspiracy theories out there that *rump is actually the real president and has been since the 2020 election, and Biden is only a puppet. It also allows the R's to further their line that world leaders don't want to meet with Biden because of his age, etc. As well as playing into the "America is so weak under biden" conspiracy theory.
This should be... and once was, I believe... that this is illegal. If nothing else, *rump should be fined for not reporting as a foreign agent for all these countries. Who knows what kind of malfeasance is being drummed up to effect our election! No... this should be stopped immediately.

(4,554 posts)I personally dont believe he (or any other non-elected official) should be allowed to hold these sorts of official meetings meant to represent the US.
If (God forbid), he becomes the President-elect after November, then fine, he can be afforded the respect 🤢🤢🤢🤮 he doesnt deserve.

(129,546 posts)is that Aso is "former". I had to do a double-take but then realized that the CURRENT PM, Fumio Kishida, who was just here in the U.S. a bit less than 2 weeks ago, did NOT do this (unlike the current President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, who did, whereas Poland's PM Donald Tusk, did NOT).

(6,570 posts)It probably pisses off the WH, too.
But, when the government official (can't remember his name) from Sweden (can't remember that, either, LOL) went to MAL to visit him, I read that this was required. Who required it, I can't remember (batting 1000 today.) But the idea was, during an election year, visiting dignitaries have to meet with both sides. That would be both Biden and Trump (unfortunately.) It's like getting briefed on secret stuff. We do that, although whether we have to make up an excuse for not doing it for national security in this case is not clear, and probably as yet untested.
I don't think these countries have a choice. I think we could probably see that Biden has met with them, or higher officials rather than "former" officials. I'll bet they come away hoping that Trump loses.
