Civil rights leaders from around the nation gathered in Washington, D.C., Friday to protest book bans and rising attacks on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), saying limitations on education were hurting teachers, students and democracy as a whole.
Protesters with the Freedom to Learn rally marched from the Library of Congress to the Supreme Court. In addition to concerns on book bans and DEI, the rally also highlighted Supreme Court rulings on ending affirmative action in higher education and overturning Roe v. Wade.
Kimberlé Crenshaw, co-founder and executive director of the African American Policy Forum, said the Supreme Court has lost its way.
Its gotten into the business of erasure, Crenshaw said. Diversity, equity and inclusion is the new moral panic of the nation. Its the source, they say, of all that ails us. DEI is becoming the new N-word in American politics.

(37,189 posts)DEI poses no threat to decent freedom loving Americans. It is a positive for our country.
And why do we have DEI programs? Because of citizens who care not about liberty and Justice and freedom for all. Its the same reason we have to hustle to the voting booth this year to legalize abortion far and wide. We have to because bad people have done bad things. And they will continue with their bad habits. And they will continue to put freedom at risk.

(1,093 posts)It's good to see people finally fighting back. The Supreme Court is broken. In all my 57 years I have never seen anything like this. We all need to vote blue to get the court back in balance.
