Jeb Bush to help sell McDonnells K-12 agenda
By Laura Vozzella
Former Florida governor Jeb Bush will help Virginia Gov. Robert F. McDonnell promote his agenda for K-12 schools Wednesday night by phoning in to a town hall-style meeting with constituents from around the state.
Bush (R) and McDonnell (R) will discuss the governors Opportunity to Learnagenda for the General Assembly session during what is billed as a Tele-Town Hall meeting at 7 p.m. They will be joined by Ed Gillespie, former counselor to President George W. Bush and chairman of the Republican National Committee, who chaired McDonnells campaign for governor.
McDonnell has been pushing bills to make it easier to establish charter schools and fire failing teachers and principals.

(39,405 posts)then the vultures will come in to profit from the free market corpse of education once privatized schools fail.
Private schools work for one reason: parents can vote with their dollars by removing their kids, and the school can weed out disruptive kids.
Parents can effect public schools by voting and showing up at school board meetings.
For privatized charters or public schools turned over to private management companies, the consumer is not the buyer. The buyer is the politician getting his palm greased by the company he gave the contract to, so he has little incentive to hold them accountable.

Had the discussion today with a 30 something who features himself a liberal and intellectual. His casually dropped the information that "everyone" knows that unions are the reason for the financial situation. Upon questioning, I found his school years had contained nothing about the labor movement, nothing about robber barons. The civil rights era was covered in a half day with an edited version of King's dream speech.
I guess our grandchildren will "know" how the bushes saved America.
Control the schools and you control the future. I'm afraid our president is selling that right to corporate interests.
