Reid To Recommend Obama Recess Appoint All Stalled Executive Nominees
To illustrate his frustration at the GOP's pattern of obstructing President Obama's executive branch nominees, Majority Leader Harry Reid announced on the Senate floor Friday that he'll ask President Obama to provide all of the nearly 100 stalled bureaucrats-in-waiting with recess appointments.
If something doesn't break here, I am going to recommend to the President he recess appoint all these people, every one of them. It's not unique. The power to recess appoint is in our Constitution And I repeat, if we don't have some significant action during the next work period, I am going to ask the President I mean, I can ask if I want to, and he doesn't have to respond affirmatively but I'm going to ask him to appoint them all. We'll do the judges. We'll have the fight on our judges ourselves because they're recommendations that we make to the President. But these are the President's nominations and he should have the right to have these people working in his administration.

(2,479 posts)It's sad that Reid even has to ask, as he should've done it years ago.
Just a little of that Bush train of "gettin' it done, no matter what," in Obama would be a fantastic thing.

(36,974 posts)The GOP has been obstructing adjournment prior to breaks/holidays for around one year.
Without an official adjournment 'agreed upon by The House AND The Senate' then there is no official recess when the Senators go home for breaks/holidays.
Therefore the president hadn't been making recess appointments because there was 'no recess'
BUT when the Senators went home for the Christmas/NewYears break President Obama called 'bullshit' on the symbolic 'Pro-forma Sessions' that the Senate was holding every three days and he recess appointed four of his nominees anyway and caught a bunch of hell from the GOP that threatened to get back at him.

(1,249 posts)What I mean is, why didn't Obama just recess appoint ALL his nominees back then? What is this bs about appointing a few people when he could appoint them all?

(18 posts)From the rank timidity of both Reid and Obama, I'm wondering if their kids were adopted. It doesn't seem to bother them that Mitch McConnell has bigger equipment than they do.
Leaders? Feh!

(36,974 posts)Prior to the adjournment of the Senate, Republicans objected to Senators Reids request to confirm the following nominations on the Executive Calendar:
List here: http://democrats.senate.gov/2012/02/17/senate-republicans-object-to-confirming-nominations-on-the-executive-calendar/
Note: Even though the word 'adjournment' is used in the text above, the Senate is NOT in an official 'recess'.
They will be having Pro-Forma Sessions every three days while on break.
Pro-forma schedule:
Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 12:00pm and
Friday, February 24, 2012 at 11:00am.

(2,574 posts)Until the Bush holdover Edward De Marco is relieved of his acting Directorship at the FHFA, which controls both Fannie & Freddie i.e. over half US mortgages, there cannot be any homeowner mortgage relief or fundamental recovery for the American economy.
DeMarco is as dangerous and powerful as Grover Norquist; he "reigns" supreme at the FHFA because Obama has not been able
to get Smith confirmed.
See Richard Eskow's blog Feb 15, 2012 at Crooks and Liars, "The Ideologue who's Holding Homeowners and the Economy Hostage."
Escrow chronicles the destructive power and policies of Edward Marco at he FHFA, and makes the appointment of Obama's own
Director of the FHFA both essential and urgent.

I can dream, can't I?

(1 post)Of course they would agree to President Obama appointing the administration positions- they just want to appoint the judges because once they are in they cannot remove them. NOWAY are those backward taking away citizens rights corporate thugs republicans getting their hands on any choice of any judge in the federal system so they can rewrite our U.S. Constitution. Nice try republitards but you cannot believe that we would be so stupid as to hand part of our precious checks and balances into the corporate world to do away with our we the people rights!!!! You have been playing in the sandbox too long and are really underestimating the U.S. citizens intelligence and what this country was founded on - our rights not corporation rights. Go swing your corporate backer rights somewhere else in another country that would be a fool enough to believe in your hype. You corporate thugs are so cheap that the republitards who think they are benefiting from the KOOL-Aide your giving them cannot even see the corporate thugs have given the republitards water instead and they don't even notice. SEE THROUGH HAHAHA
