About 200 union members from the UAW and other unions gathered this morning on the roof of the GEM & Century Theaters parking garage in Detroit to protest against Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, and is position on the automotive industry.
With chants of Thank you Obama, and Dont bet against American Workers, the union members wanted to send a message to Romney in advance of his speech today at Ford Field, which is across the street from the GEM.
We all would have been out of a job if it were not for who? Bob King shouted into a megaphone.

The UAW lined up American made cars on the roof of the parking garage with letters on each car that said Romney: Let Detroit go bankrupt, which recalls the headline of a New York Times op-ed Romney wrote in 2008.

Hundreds of protestors are circling Ford Field in Detroit this morning ahead of Mitt Romney's address to the Detroit Economic Club, reminding passers by that the presidential hopeful opposed the federal bailout that helped save General Motors and Chrysler.
The protest, organized by the Progress Michigan activist group, began on the rooftop of a nearby parking garage before participants, many wearing United Auto Workers jackets, took to the streets.
Progress Michigan also paid for a mobile billboard to roam the stadium that reads: "Let Detroit Romney go bankrupt," a reference to his now-infamous 2008 editorial in the New York Times.
"The Wall Street CEO ideology of Mitt Romney that opposes the auto rescue but supports big bank bailouts is dangerous for Michigan families," David Holtz, outgoing Executive Director of Progress Michigan said in a released statement. "It's important we send a strong message that Michigans auto industry counts. And when it counted most, Mitt Romney threw us under the bus."

(6,295 posts)....it seems like slick willard, the rich wall-street Mormon, hasn't curried much favor with Auto Workers who are now employed making automobiles instead of flipping hamburgers....
....slick willard shouldn't expect much support from anyone in Michigan, since he threw Michigan 'under the bus'....
