Santorum admits using robocalls in Michigan primary campaign
Rick Santorum has admitted authorising robocalls to encourage Democrats to participate in the Michigan Republican primary and to vote against rival Mitt Romney.
Romney had accused Santorum of resorting to dirty tricks on the eve of Tuesday's primary. Speaking to Fox News, Romney said Santorum's tactic, which is legitimate but could be regarded as underhand, marked a new low in the campaign.
"Senator Santorum did something today which I think is deceptive and a dirty trick," Romney said.

(413 posts)... to make whatever primary one voted in a matter of 'public record'. Not who one voted for, but that one voted in the GOP primary, for example... Sinister, I'm thinking, and I don't like it.

(1,524 posts)If somebody points out my name in the public record, I'll just point them to this video (esp. second guy):
Plus, it'll be fun getting more Repub spam...it seems to have died out recently (not sure how I ever got on their lists in the first place)

(12,001 posts)I've been seeing lots of "donate to Santorum" ads here on DU. And in fact I was wondering whether they're just part of a "political site" ad rotation or whether the Santorum campaign has specifically chosen DU as a desirable site for the same reason, to get dems to support him to help keep Romney out.

(135,425 posts)If someone types "Santorum" and there's an ad in the queue for him, then up it pops. If someone types "Coulter" and that idiot has a new book out, up pops the ad for it. If someone writes "erectile dysfunction" here comes the Viagra/Cialis ads!
I don't think we're the Santorum Chosen. He's stupid, but he couldn't possibly be so stupid as to waste his money that way!

(1,524 posts)I was searching for web hosting about a month ago and to this day I get a lot of targeted ads for hosting. even more, I was mostly looking at cloud services and am mostly getting ads for cloud services. And it's accurate too, because I'm still looking (though not very actively)

(12,001 posts)and if his strategy include getting dems to help him beat romney, it wouldn't necessarily be a stupid idea... though I can't imagine many DUers actually writing that check!
Though the way ads work, it often has much to do with what is on the page, rather than what you type. So the fact that DU pages often have his name on them could result in an ad placement, and I think that's probably the most likely explanation.

(135,425 posts)participate on a page where you find Santorum or Coulter or Romney or what-have-you. If you're on a thread discussing the jerk, you're "invested" in him, in the minds of these data-mining assholes.
If you say "Romney is crapping his drawers over the Michigan primary; he'll need to invest in adult diapers to get through to the convention," you'll probably end up with ads for DEPENDS popping up here and there!

(14 posts)For someone who claims to be so high and mighty, Santorum sure is unethical. His comments about President Kennedy, his comments about higher education show that he is a, excuse the word, "nut". We are telling kids to stay in school and Santorum says it is not necessary because you might be "indoctrinated" by the liberals. He is an example of the extreme thinking that is soooooo wrong in this country today. If Kennedy and Johnson had left it up to states like Mississippi or Alabama during the civil rights battle, you can bet civil rights for minorities would never had passed. If we leave it up to the states or most churches than gays will continue to be denied their rights. Why does the GOP always have to have someone to look down on?
