Big-name Republicans defend Christie

Source: Bergen Record

Sunday February 2, 2014, 10:24 AM

Associated Press

TRENTON — Big-name Republicans are standing behind New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie days after a former loyalist said evidence exists that Christie knew about a politically motivated traffic jam last year even as it happened.

Christie has denied that claim and said he learned about the jam ordered by one of his aides only after it was over.

Former Port Authority of New York and New Jersey executive David Wildstein hasn't detailed the evidence.

U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin says "nothing has been proven." The 2012 vice presidential candidate appeared Sunday on ABC's "This Week."

Others that chimed in are Bobby Jindal and Rudy (911) Giuliani.

To me, I'm glad they're aligning themselves with this nasty SOB, may they go down with him.

Christie is the only candidate they have that at least used to pose a threat to Hillary.

Don't take him lightly, though. There's still 2 1/2 years to go, which is plenty of time for Gov. Crispy Creme to rehabilitate his image (and perhaps, his midsection).

He's down. We can't let him get back up.

If Bobby J and Rudy are big names in the republican party then they are finished on a national level.

weigh in on something they know no more about than the average newspaper reader, and I'm supposed to give them special credence?

Seems the headline should read, "Christies Friends Say He's a Swell Fellow." At least then we could give them props for standing by their buddy. As it is, their words seem more self-serving than supportive: "We gotta circle the wagons to protect the brand, boys. Christies' an ass, and probably toast, but it's the Party's future on the line as much as his."

Do I need to add this?

What we do know now:

1) that the busiest bridge in the world was shut down to make people suffer
and it put the public @ risk under orders from the Governor's office and the
Governor is on record that he did not know about those actions.

b) Federal Sandy relief funds were being used as a slush fund for political purposes.

iii) That 4 different New Jersey mayors (Ft. Lee, Hoboken, Elizabeth City, and Jersey
City) are now all on record that they or their cities were punished for not "playing ball
w/Governor Christie.

Once it looks like Christie is cooked and will not finish his term Paul Ryan will drop
him like a pair of dirty underwear.

My
is that Christie is done for and it is only a question of him cutting a deal that by
leaving office he will avoid criminal prosecution.

You write that "the busiest bridge in the world was shut down...." That's way more than what happened.

The bridge stayed open. All the lanes across the bridge stayed open. What happened was that access was reconfigured so that two of the lanes across the bridge were reallocated from one access point to another.

As you'd expect, the access method that lost lanes (access through Fort Lee) became jammed up. The flip side is that traffic reaching the bridge but not through Fort Lee had more lanes and therefore flowed more smoothly. Buried in one of those emails is the information that, while Fort Lee was choking on traffic, I-95 cleared 45 minutes earlier than usual.

My experience is that, if you have a generally valid case but you overstate one point, the other side will seize on the mistake and try to make that the issue. That's why I think it's worth being careful in describing what actually happened.

.... the lanes going straight onto the bridge seemed to be kind of open but ....
the lanes that got the traffic from the outside loop (Ft. Lee) were jammed
up solid.

BTW The traffic study cover story never passed the smell test to me.

BTW part deux my random post on the internet will not be what does or does
not sink Christie.

Yes, he is the kind of boss that would imply "do this, but I don't want to know."

Yes, he is a bully. On the other hand, I would not trust anything coming from either Bridget Kelly or David Wildstein just on face value.
