McClatchy-Marist Poll: Christie is dropping fast against Clinton
Source: McClatchyDC.com
WASHINGTON Dragged down by controversy, Chris Christie is falling far, far behind Hillary Clinton in a potential matchup for the 2016 presidential campaign, according to a new McClatchy-Marist Poll.
Christie still is neck and neck with several possible rivals in an early hypothetical matchup for the Republican presidential nomination. But general election voters are split almost evenly about whether hes telling the truth about his role in the closing of a bridge in an act of political punishment. And his main claim to fame, that he alone among Republicans could compete against Clinton, has been seriously damaged.
Four weeks ago, he trailed her by 13 points in the poll, 50 percent to 37 percent. Today, he trails by 21 points, 58 percent to 37 percent, faring worse than any other Republican tested except Sarah Palin.

No other Republican comes close to Clinton. She has a 52-44 edge over 2012 vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan, in the news lately as a chief architect of Congress budget deal. She tops Mitt Romney, the 2012 Republican presidential nominee, 53 percent to 44 percent.

She also has double-digit leads over Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, Mike Huckabee, Ted Cruz, and Jeb Bush. And if matched against Sarah Palin, Hillary would win 62-35. (Which certainly calls into question the sanity of that 35%.)

(30,253 posts)Regardless whether it's Hillary or any other woman, I would find it insulting to judge a female candidate based on her husband's misdeeds. Women are not an appendage of their husbands. They are their own person.
Do they realize how offensive they are? The ferret and the squirrel (Rand Paul) can try to push this meme all they want, but it'll be a losing strategy for the GOP.

(19,348 posts)She will still be ahead against any of these jackals though. Cruz and Palin are the only two candidates that Hillary will not see a drop against because they are that bad. I do believe 62% would vote for Hillary over Palin.

I'm so pleased "The Real Chris of New Jersey" has come to the fore. Ya can't put that toothpaste back in the tube, either.

I can't even recall any articles touching upon what everyday Americans want or need for OUR future, and how WE can best obtain them. Going to the race track everyday doesn't seem the best use of media.

(312 posts)The mass of the red flyover states have never liked Christie. He is a big city politician and they do not vote for people like that.
Worry about Ben Carlson. This guy is squeaky clean, very well respected and can harvest a good bit of the liberal vote too.
This is a conservative who can beat Hillary with the right support, handling and money.
Hillary Clinton is an amazing woman but Ben Carlson is an amazing man. If his politics were left of center instead of to the right our party would be considering him for president too.

Hillary has nothing to worry from the likes of Carson. Sorry.

(312 posts)I don't have any poll results right in front of me and he has not done or said anything yet that would put him in the next presidential race. He has also refused to say he will not run. Because of this non-status there is not a lot on him yet in the current news. There is a movie out about him that is rather recent. The few more local and scattered polls that I have seen he holds his own. In the red states he does very well. In the purple states if people know of him he also does well.
I look at him as a legitimate potential candidate. I have no crystal ball but if I were trying to find someone to run against HC it would have to be someone like him and not the other wannabes on that side of the line. I see no one else on the Right who has a chance in hell of beating HC right now.
I value honesty and integrity so I don't think much of any of the rest of that herd.

(13,437 posts)I know there are many people here at DU who justly criticize her for not being liberal enough. I simply hope they realize she will help the Dems regain the House. Democrats controlling both chambers of Congress with Clinton in the White House is far better than some other Democrat in the White House and Republicans still controlling the House in January 2017.
