Ted Cruz Threatens To Filibuster Clean Debt Limit Hike
Source: TPM

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) will push a 60-vote threshold, meaning he's threatening to filibuster, on a clean debt ceiling increase extension. Cruz's office confirmed the Texas senator's plans to TPM on Tuesday afternoon.
Cruz's move means lawmakers will need to rally 60 votes in the chamber to pass the bill, and Democrats only control 55 votes. The announcement came the same day that House Republicans dropped a previous debt ceiling increase proposal and embraced a clean hike instead.
That decision sparked outrage from tea party groups with Tea Party Patriots co-founder Jenny Beth Martin calling it a "complete capitulation."
The Senate vote on the clean debt ceiling bill is likely to come shortly after the House vote planned for Tuesday evening.

(11,530 posts)If he feels that strongly about it he should be willing to actually filibuster. None of these make believe filibusters the GOPers have been getting away with.

(6,891 posts)doing his usual soft shoe shuffle, neither confirming nor denying ever having smoked pot and not having the huevos to just say "It's none of you damn business." Now Cruz threatens to strut and prance another filibuster across the senate stage to keep his name on the news. Both of these evil clowns are pandering for the repuke presidential nomination. Cruz is the meaner asshole of the pair, but Rubio is stupider. It's a tossup. How did it ever come to this?

"Americans shouldn't be held hostage by the idea of clean toilets." The Texas Senator said. "They should know that our forefathers didn't rely on clean toilets to be effective leaders", he added. "If a toilet is dirtied by the Congress, it is the duty of all Americans to accept it."
"Besides," the Senator added, "I'm smarter that the shit in a toilet bowl."
The shit in the toilet bowl declined to comment.
