SOCHI, Russia (AP) - In a powerful symbol of international sports detente, Russian President Vladimir Putin dropped in on U.S. Olympic headquarters Friday to chat about the Winter Games and the upcoming Russia-U.S. hockey showdown.
He even wore a red Team USA pin on his lapel.
Putin spent about half an hour at USA House in Sochi's Olympic Park, sitting on a couch talking with U.S. Olympic Committee chairman Larry Probst and CEO Scott Blackmun. From there, he made a stop at Canada House next door.
"Putin was very gracious," Blackmun told The Associated Press. "What I would remember is it sends a strong message about the importance of sport to Russia."

I would agree. although I would like to negotiate on how to deal with the stray dogs. Why do it in front of the spectators. Most people putting on the games know they have to cuddle with the media. They'll love you right back. Building Motels that fall apart not the best thing in the world... But I won't watch the games because of what they are doing with the dogs as if it were normal. oh wait it is.. just another day in Sochi... wait Sochi is 2 hours away... Which is like awarding the Games to Atlanta and the games are in Miami

(34,582 posts)just saying that cosmicone saying he is a master politician does not equal love for Putin. Personally, I think he is nothing but a moderately slick KGB thug.

(8,361 posts)For the good of our country than Putin ever has for Russia. Obama is an excellent politician who has enjoyed and had success with the long game.

(267 posts)but it's like saying "Ted Bundy really knew how to appeal to a woman". In a similar way, Putin can be suave and engaging, but he's really nothing more than a slick opportunist. He's just playing to the cameras, and establishing an 'image'. That's a part of politics, but in the other parts of the arena he is a relentless brute.

(983 posts)The same guy who faced down the establishment Bill and Hillary double team to clinch the democratic nomination?
The first President since Eisenhower to win over 51% of the vote twice?
The first Democratic President in nearly four decades to win a majority vote?
The first US President since FDR to win re-election with an 7.9+ unemployment rate?
I won't get started on the list historic legislative achievements.
What an amateurish guy lol.
