Michele Bachmann: Hillary can’t ride wave of white ‘guilt’ into office like Obama did
Source: Raw Story
Former presidential hopeful Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) said in an interview with TriCities.com columnist Cal Thomas that the United States wont elect former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton president in 2016 because the country isnt ready for a woman president.
According to Bachmann, the tide of white guilt that President Barack Obama rode into office will not be matched by a similar feelings for the former First Lady.
Bachmann announced in 2013 that she is retiring from Congress after her current term, but she did not hesitate to offer Republicans advice about how to defeat Clinton, should she decide to run. The GOP, she said, needs to keep hammering away at the 2012 attack on the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya.
Clinton, Bachmann said, was aware of deteriorating conditions on the ground in Benghazi, but chose to do nothing.

It is true that EVERY Democrat has received somewhere near 90% of the black vote and large majorities of Asian, Hispanic and Jewish voters. Look at percents for Gore and Kerry. One thing that was very different in 2008, was not the percent, but the absolute number of black voters. There were many who never voted before.
I agree that Obama likely lost some votes due to racism, but estimates of that tend to be pretty low. One study found some by identifying some Southern places where Obama in 2008 (a great D year) got fewer votes than Kerry in a bad year for Democrats - this is striking given the overall differences in the years and that Kerry was not a Southern favorite - to say the least.
Another thing that should help Hillary is that there will be another 4 years of young voters. I saw a study that indicated that Kerry would have won if instead of the 2004 electorate, he had the 2008 electorate. That cohort of new young voters went very Democratic. The increase for 2012 was likely very helpful in 2012.

All those kowtowing crowds are out there, but there were are just not enough stupid, delusional, or paranoid people to get herself nominated for national office.
Still, Bachmann in an expert at not catching waves. if there ever was one. I'm sure Hillary is deeply "worried" by these "astute" comments.

I think the US is ready for a woman president. Whether it will be Hilary Clinton or not, who knows. South Korea is MUCH more conservative than the US and elected a woman president in 2012. Of course Bachmann is too batshit to realize that.

(12,233 posts)They actually can't believe that we would vote for President Obama because we wanted to vote for him. Yeah, the historical election of our first African American Pres was cool as all hell... but he pulled out of the pack because he was against the Iraq War and gave a speech against it when it was extremely unpopular to go agaisnt Bush in any context (shit, I had to lower my head and watch what I said and to whom I said it to down in FL). That was one of the biggest issues, along with all the illegal shit like torture, Gitmo prison, warantless wiretaps, the Patriot Act, NDAA.. these were really big issues at that time.
The economy in free fall sort of over took these other issues (still incredibly important issues). AND of course, as soon as he was inaugurated, the fake-assed TeaParty was created. Basically, the Republicans were in so much trouble, they let the crazies out of the closet and now they have actual power in the House and Senate and a handful are taking this country down because these crazies were lied to forever. Grew up with lies and ingnorance. AND now they have actual seats of power and they are burning the country down. They are doing a horrible job in the states. Look at NC, WI, OH, PA, FL, TX, LA, MS, SC.. All these Southern states are in near ruins. Those in charge have no care or desire to serve the people they represent or any desire to make things better for "all" of its state's residents; they care about theirselves first, family, cronies, and their wealthy friends. They don't care for the poor, homeless, jobs, environment, education of the masses (other than what types of money they can launder out of the public till with their charter school scams)... They are the worst things that have been allowed to exist AND for some damned reason, people keep electing them.

(30,254 posts)The one nugget of truth in her statement is that Hillary will confront sexism. She's confronting it right now and has confronted it since she became a public figure in AR back in the late 70s.
Sexism is the one area where there seems to be bipartisan agreement. It's obviously not just Hillary, most women in the public arena get smacked with a barrage of asinine remarks about their looks (hair, age, clothing, etc.). If they are a mother they also question their ability to be a good one. When was the last time that someone asked a male candidate if running for office impeded with their ability to be a good father?
So yes, Michelle is a nut job, but sooner or later every squirrel finds an acorn.

Would I ever vote for a Republican for President? Well, I have voted in every election since 1968 and I have not voted for a Republican, yet. So I doubt it.
I did not vote for him because he was black, I would not vote for a woman if I thought she was unsuitable, unless her opposition was another Republican, sexist, racist, phony Christian idiot.

(18,124 posts)are who keep misogyny going, because she "knows her place" as the religionists and male teabaggers have taught her. Until the 45% of women who voted for romney QUIT voting against their own interests there will be no major cultural changes in racism, misogyny and homophobia in this country. Period. She is one of many responsible for the "deteriorating conditions" in this country.

(32,139 posts)obviously it's the deep red that hate her. When I was working on Obama's primary in 2008 the Latino vote was with Hillary all the way - in fact in my county south of Houston she beat Obama in that primary despite our door to door efforts. She has already met with Julian Castro and if she runs I do think she'd be the popular dem down here again and she'd especially have a lot of support from San Antonio.

(30,254 posts)She had the Latino, Indian and Asian vote. In TX she has roots because she started going there in the early 70s while still in law school. She went one summer to register people to vote in the Latino community. Bill trailed along to be with her. Both Clintons are viewed positively by the majority of Latin voters (with the exception of the older Cuban crowd, which tend to vote Republican).

(35 posts)The constant need for ludicrous interviews from former republican presidential hopefuls has gotten way out of hand. That bachmann was a front runner in the gop primary is a testament to how low they have gone to scrape out a turd of salvation. Clinton is perhaps a leading candidate for Democrats in 2016. Time will tell. For now the 2014 elections are in need of discussion. The rantings of right-wing has-been politicians is a distraction not worthy of limited space.
