AUSTIN Entertainer Kinky Friedman is running a long-shot campaign for agriculture commissioner with a platform to match: marijuana legalization.
Despite Texas tough-on-drugs history, it could be an opportunity for Friedman, who has fallen far short in previous runs for governor and agriculture commissioner, to raise attention for the issue and himself.

Its not too much to say that if we legalize pot, it would effectively castrate the Mexican drug cartels and make the state of Texas the new cartel, Friedman said. If we wait 15 years, we will be the caboose on the train.

As Democrats we should try harder to motivate these folks to the polls. It would take only a small percentage of them to swing a close election.

I've never voted for him and never would, and he doesn't really expect anyone to do so. He's more of a monkey wrench in the works and to that end he has value whether or not you agree with him.
