Susan Collins just put Trumps agenda into jeopardy with a defiant announcement.
'On the heels of the wildly unpopular FCC vote in favor of repealing net neutrality rules regulating broadband companies power over consumers use of the internet, a glimmer of hope may have just surfaced.
Senate Democrats have introduced a bill that has garnered 40 co-sponsors, enough to overturn a repeal of the regulations. In doing so, they have secured a procedural vote on the floor of the Senate.
Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) has declared that she will vote with Democrats to restore net neutrality. In the event that all 49 Democrats vote in favor of the resolution, Collins participation would mean that Democrats would only need one more Republican defection to overturn the FCCs decision.
Given the decisions extreme unpopularity in the United States a staggering 83 percent of Americans support the Obama era net neutrality rules there will be pressure for moderate Republicans to side with the Democrats.'>>>

Especially the way the press report it. Don't forget, their biggest bias is always for conflict and sensationalism, and problems. People don't and never did tune in to hear what's going well. any more than cars slow down on the freeway to admire the well maintained landscaping.

(476 posts)The vulnerable Republican who always votes the right way on all the important stuff is allowed to noisily pretend that they're a "maverick" and independent of the party, voting against the party on votes the part is going to win anyway.
If this bill ever came close to passage, the GOP would just filibuster it.
Collins is playing a bullshit game.

(16,263 posts)She plays a different line than Cheeto Jesus. She pretends to be all "stand up for the worker". Once she knows the GOPKKK have the votes to pass whatever $hit legislation they are working on, she votes with the Dems to appease her purple constituency. Put no faith in ANYTHING this woman does. She is NOT in your court.

(18 posts)Even if we could get one more republican to join Democrats, wed still need the resolution of disapproval to pass the House, which is ahem, unlikely to say the least. Ryan likely wouldnt even bring it to the floor for a vote.. and even then, if by some miracle it passed both houses of Congress, the President could still veto it and thus force a need for enough votes to override the veto, which is never gonna happen even under the most optimistic of scenarios.
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)you're correct - I said as much below because I had missed your post. Under Bush, when Dems held the senate and Republicans the House, the Democrats passed a bunch of good bills that DeLay and Boehner didn't even allow to get to the floor in the House
