AIDS Memorial Quilt (1987)
"Meet Cleve Jones, whose San Francisco neighborhood was ground zero for the AIDS epidemic. His unorthodox idea for a massive quilt would not only honor the epidemics victims but also serve as a rallying cry for activists advocating for national attention to the plague."

"President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton became the only First Couple to visit the quilt, and when they did, Jones personally implored them to accelerate research and make the experimental drugs more widely available."
It was through Hillary & President Bill Clinton that a National voice was finally given for AIDS research & honor & dignity to those afflicted by the AIDS pandemic.
Since, and through the Clinton Foundation they have been addressing research & treating & stopping the disease on a Global scale.
This is the epitome of the Democratic Party

"It was in 1990 in San Francisco. Dr. Eric Goosby, who is now our Global AIDS Ambassador, ran a triage center there for all the HIV-positive people who became sick during the conference. They set up IV drug drips to rehydrate patients. They gave antibiotics to people with AIDS-related pneumonia. Many had to be hospitalized and a few died.
Even at a time when the worlds response to the epidemic was sorely lacking, there were places and people of caring where people with AIDS found support. But tragically, there was so little that could be done medically. And thankfully, that has changed. Caring brought action, and action has made an impact."

From Congresswoman Pelosi, 1987 to President Bill Clinton, 1992 to Sec of State Hillary R Clinton, 2012 & throughout the years of the Clinton Foundation, those who made human rights their mission with the power they'd been granted, have & still remain committed forces in their country & their world.
This is what leadership & good governance is..
It is shown in their personal deeds from day one.
Thank you

(83,746 posts)She had only been there three months. She protested! Not outside the Speakers Office, but in the streets protesting inequality for our brothers and sisters.

(15,325 posts)I watched a documentary quite some time ago, about this Memorial Garden.
It talked about the construction & development of it over time.
I believe Pelosi was interviewd for the work she did to bring it about as well as her years of dedication to the AIDS movement.
What a shining example she is for others to follow.
Thank you for the post & pic. It is a treasured place indeed.
