When one hears the current Republican babble-speak, it seems unbelievable that anyone with a modicum of intelligence, or just plain common sense, wouldnt dismiss their ramblings out-of-hand: Unionized workers are bleeding the country dry, while CEOs of major corporations collecting multi-million dollar salaries are working hard to earn every penny. Teachers who educate our children are greedy parasites, while bankers and stockbrokers are just doing their best to get by. Firefighters and cops are expendable, while insurance company executives wielding claim denied stamps are necessary to protect the common good.
What is being proffered by the Republican Party is not the path of least resistance, but the path of no resistance. Dont ask the obvious questions, dont let common sense prevail, dont attach immoral intent to those making a buck off the misery of others, dont pay any attention to the fact that the hypocrites expounding the virtues of traditional marriage and family values are often philanderers and dead-beat dads, dont accept that your duly-elected representative is under investigation for good reason, dont wonder why the homeless people in your city are veterans who fought for their country, and dont under any circumstances doubt anyone who tells you that youre a sucker for giving a buck or two to someone who looks like they need a decent meal.
It is a sad day in America when so many are anxious to jump on the no-one-deserves-my-tax-dollars bandwagon, while gleefully cheering the expenditure of those same tax dollars on efforts to purge legitimate voters from the rolls, to deny access to healthcare to their fellow citizens, to promote the exclusion of facts from our childrens textbooks, to ensure that the down-and-out stay down-and-out rather than underwriting every effort to feed them, clothe them, and bring them back into the fold of our society at large.
The path of no resistance does not want for adherents to its self-serving tenets. It only wants for human compassion, a true weighing of what is right as against what is inherently wrong, a sense of self-respect that is inclusive of respecting others, a perspective based on what is in front of your eyes as opposed to what you are being told is obvious, a bit of curiosity as to the facts, a tad of common sense wrapped in common decency, and an uneasy conscience that is not easily salved by those who laud ones ability to walk past a homeless guy on the street and dismiss his needs as being not only disingenuous, but totally irrelevant.
What we Democrats are up against is not simply a party that opposes our liberal views, but a party that continually encourages our fellow citizens to choose ignorance over intelligent thought, to choose selfishness over the type of charity that all religions preach, to choose mindless political rhetoric over in-your-face facts, to choose the path of no resistance over the straight-and-narrow path as difficult as that path may be that leads to one nation, with true liberty and justice for all.

(35,359 posts)With our ass in the air and our heads in the ground
There's no sense of despair, without sight, without sound
We hold our ears and shut our eyes
Distant screams morph into lullabies
We beat indifferent drum, we pound it till we're numb
We validate, rationalize, corroborate each others lives
Pat my back and I'll pat yours, benevolent conquistadors
We piss down throats, shit in cupped hands
Wipe our asses with all foreign flags
We beat indifferent drum, we pound it till we're numb
20 feet high, 2 feet thick, barbed wire, razor blades
The wall was built to keep them out while keeping us in goose step parades
We don't questions what we've become
We march to the beat of the same indifferent drum
We beat it till we're numb, we beat it till we're numb

(2,577 posts)When a young "Christian" woman says in all sincerity that there are no poor people in America, only lazy ones, something is very seriously wrong.
When a second "Christian" young woman writes a term paper that argues that we have no poor people because we aren't like Africa, something is seriously wrong.
When the letters to the editor damn overpaid teachers over and over and defend the need for more high-paid administrators, something is seriously wrong.

(51,821 posts)Dem policies improve everyone's lot, even the 1%. I remember hearing a Swedish businessman being interviewed, I think it was on MSNBC, and the reporter was just incredulous that this guy would put up with a 75% top marginal tax. The man just matter-of factly said, "I don't want to be a rich man in a poor country."

(1,838 posts)You have said some things that really hit the nail on the head. We also live where the elected leaders are taking our money and tax dollars that we have paid forward in this economy for the good of the nation and have just outright stolen it. Then tell the American people what it is we are not entitled to. They have taken corporate dollars to feed us a bunch of lies and have backed themselves into non-governing. The elected leaders do not even grasp that with all their so-called law degrees, degrees in medicine, and business, that they look and sound like a bunch of ignorant elephants. They have volumized our listening with the song of "Government Is Bad" and has made a steady chorus over the years. But if government is so bad, then why is it our elected leaders have taken advantage of all that government has to offer. Enjoying the Salaries, subsidised Healthcare, inside trading, medicaid subsidies, farm subsides, foriegn automakers from countries whom we have went to war with building on American soil, in their states. Getting to Congress with kool-aid money and leaving with Champagne loot. Yes Government is Bad, For Americans like me and you.
