Just over a year has now elapsed from the time the now infamous LA Fed Tapes broke creating a scandal in Los Angeles so big that the swirling questions, suspicions, and confusion from the event remain significantly uncontrolled. Like a wildfire, the words heard on those tape most offensive in nature to just about anyone with a sense of common decency continue to sow doubt and division in Los Angeles politics and sadly in our community. Addressing the question of not just what happened, but why is a critical mission of public accountability journalism.
The goal is not to put the journalism ahead of the investigation, but rather to follow the facts where they may lead and scrutinize the available observable evidence to understand the motive of the leak, and in doing so reduce factors of uncertainty that add to the questions and concerns that reflect the common goodwill of the people of Los Angeles in addressing both racism, and criminal behavior. This is not to say there arent whistleblowers, and that they should be protected, in leaking the recordings Reddit username Honest-Finding-1581 showed the world that hatred is not okay even behind closed doors.
