Article: How the GOP muzzled the quiet coalition that fought foreign propaganda

The FBI put a pause on briefings with tech companies due to an ongoing lawsuit, adding to a broader breakdown in a system meant to guard against influence operations and to ensure election integrity.

A once-robust alliance of federal agencies, tech companies, election officials and researchers that worked together to thwart foreign propaganda and disinformation has fragmented after years of sustained Republican attacks.

Last Tuesday's Democratic wins not withstanding, I feel that America is largely finished and that we'll be under a dictatorship at best or armed civil conflict at worst come November 2024. And the cause will have been a combination of Republicans hamstringing Federal government good works, as explained in this article, and low turnout due to the apathy of certain blocks of voters - mostly younger, cynical, elitist bohemian types - who are 90+ percent in sync with big-D Democratic values, but who decline to vote Democratic, or who won't vote at all, because of some twisted, hyper-intellectualized schtick about non-perfect candidates, all-or-nothing judgements on single issues, corrupt logic about equivalence to Republicans...the list goes on. Assholes. I've heard this shit first hand from snooty friends of my college age son, and I've seen many posts online with this crap. I'm starting to turn on young people.

The Federal government shares information with, and regularly - and quietly - contacts and briefs all sorts of industries, on a variety of security issues. Corporate espionage, cyber security, mass threats, securities market manipulation, etc.

But when a type of foreign interference in a particular sector happens to benefit Republicans, and the government briefs that industry about the manipulation in an effort to stop it, it suddenly becomes "oppression" and a first amendment violation and "must be stopped". Assholes. Just because foreign intervention helps Republicans doesn't mean it's OK. It's still foreign interference.

Republicans - and conservatives in general - have become institutionally seditious, corrupt and totalitarian.

Even if we win in '24, that just kicks the America-is-over can down the road by 2 years.

We can't go on like this. We must get majorities in congress and WH and re-constitute federal government to make it even more resistant to political bullying.

Read the Project2025 paper, or a good summary of it, and review the WaPo article of November 6 about Trump's plans if he wins a second term. If you don't see totalitarianism or civil war in these plans, you're mentally and emotionally compromised and should go on lithium right now.

Our bunker mentality is also to blame. The ongoing civil war has us trying to protect ourselves (our mental health) and avoid too much exposure to toxic info. A very Catch 22.
