'No More Money' for Israel, Says Sanders as Biden Official Privately Warns of Imminent Famine Declaration
"The U.S. cannot partner with a country that is starving children," said Sen. Bernie Sanders.
(snip)
As Axios reported Wednesday, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan warned Israeli officials in a virtual meeting earlier this week that the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) could in the coming weeks declare a famine in Gaza, which would be only the third such declaration worldwide in the 21st century.

As Oxfam reported Wednesday, people in northern Gaza, where about 300,000 Palestinians are believed to be trapped, are now subsisting on 245 calories per dayless than a can of beans and about 12% of the recommended daily intake to prevent malnutrition.
For Gaza's population of 2.2 million people, Oxfam found that the food deliveries allowed into Gaza since October have allowed Palestinians there to consume an average of just 41% of the daily calories needed per person.

"Israel is making deliberate choices to starve civilians. Imagine what it is like, not only to be trying to survive on 245 calories day in, day out, but also having to watch your children or elderly relatives do the same. All whilst displaced, with little to no access to clean water or a toilet, knowing most medical support has gone and under the constant threat of drones and bomb," said Amitabh Behar, international executive director of Oxfam. "All countries need to immediately stop supplying arms to Israel and do all they can to secure an immediate and permanent cease-fire; only then can we stop this horrifying carnage for the 2.2 million people who have endured six months of suffering."

what would be the reaction by the Repugs?
Disapproval or Support?

I believe that would be a bridge too far even for many if not most of them, because the situation in Gaza is only getting worse under current dynamics and will be impossible to ignore.

(25,270 posts)4. Tr**p's Supposed Stand On This Is.....
is that this conflict must be ended quickly. Get it over with.
What does that mean?
I'm sure that his MAGA's will interpret that statement as being strong and decisive.
But there is now substance behind it and it's just another bunch of Tr**p jibberish.
Full of sound and fury - but signifying nothing!!!

(58,417 posts)5. You bring up an interesting point,
"I'm sure that his MAGA's will interpret that statement as being strong and decisive."
I'm thinking our language had/has some influence on that dynamic.
In general we view strength as a positive attribute from the 19th century Strongman weightlifters when the word was first coined.
Being strong is a good thing, so why do we use the word "strongman" to describe a political leader or dictator that is so afraid, insecure or thin skinned as to be unable to tolerate any dissension, criticism or opposition.
The only reason that I can think of is that the rest of the people of that given society must be exceptionally weak as a relative point to tolerate a "strongman" in politics.
That weakness of the people may not be by choice, sometimes it's made for them and they may not even be aware of the wool being pulled over their eyes on a subconscious level.
