Escalating tensions between Fatah, Hamas will impact post-war Gaza

Amid reports on Monday of US backing for Palestinian Authority (PA) control of post-war Gaza, tensions between Fatah and Hamas appear to be escalating, posing a threat to existing plans.

The US and other influential entities anticipated that the Palestinian Authority would implement crucial reforms to function as a "normalized" authority. An Israeli official told the Wall Street Journal, "The understanding is that one way or another, we will work with entities connected to the Authority. However, it doesn't mean that the current format of the Authority will be the leading force in Gaza." Hamas, on the other hand, is intensifying efforts to ensure its central role in governing the Gaza Strip, aiming for significant political influence.

The terror organization arrested six Palestinians suspected of collaborating with PA intelligence operatives who entered Gaza with Egyptian Red Cross aid at the end of March.

Hamas targets PA for alleged collaboration with Israel

Hamas sent a sharp message to the PA, alleging cooperation with Israel in "the destructive war against Gazans." A Fatah spokesperson, in turn, stated that Hamas is focusing on activities against the Palestinian Authority and that "Palestinian Authority intelligence operatives operate in Gaza solely to distribute aid to residents."

and expulsion, arrest, or murder of PLO folk as a result of the coup.

More Uighurs have died than Gazans.

Assad killed more Syrians than Israel's killed Gazans.

You know, I must have missed the protests and chants of "Death to China!" or "Death to the Communist Party of China!" or even "Xi should stop the oppression!"

Even the few Syrian protests I saw were mostly pro-democracy, not "Basher Ass-ad is killing Muslims!"

Gee, I wonder what else is up for grabs?

As one recent publication pointed out, if a Muslim kills Muslims, it's bad, but not humiliation. If a Han kills Muslims, it's wrong, but there's no special animus in Islam against Han. Shit happens. But if a lesser kills a superior, a Jew kills a Muslim, it's profoundly humiliating, it's a defeat! There's injustice, but then there's loss of honor (my extrapolation here and ff). Honor must be avenged against those who dishonor my group, but, ya know, shit happens so since some of those deaths weren't too proximal to me ... whatever. It nicely explains the still-low-to-mid-70s support among Gazans for Hamas. 30k dead, destruction, and the support's dropped maybe 10-15%. There's the view that death is better than living with humiliation.

It's like Gaza is letting somebody inflict seppuku on them. To mix honor-based traditions.

And, true to form, following and quoting Khomenei, we recently heard calls of 'death to israel" and "death to America" ... protected speech in America.
