Our Third COVID Surge in Nine Months is Ahead -- What Does That Mean? - @AugieRay
(I decided to get a booster shot today, haven't had one since the second shot at the very beginning)
Ive been posting long-form updates about COVID risks on Post.news, but alas, that platform is shuttering. So, I will bring my periodic updates about the risks of COVID-19 here to Medium, for those who care.
I thought we might make it through summer without another surge, but based on the rise of new COVID variants, experts predict well see our third surge in nine months in the weeks ahead. Itll probably be a moderate one (given warmer, summer weather), but were likely to see COVID infections (as measured in wastewater) rise 40% or more in the coming month. (A UK surge seems to be a couple of weeks ahead of the US.)
When people say COVID is seasonal, I think they think its surging once a year in winter, not every three months. But, we have seen surges of infections caused by new variants in August/September, December/January, and now very likely in April and May.
Why is this happening? Look around at your social feeds. People seem to be in a competition for who can most frequently be in the most crowded spaces. Pretending things are as safe as they were in 2019 is leading to higher transmission, which feeds more viral mutation. There is still a chance a new and more dangerous COVID variant could develop, and if it does, itll be our fault because so many are doing absolutely nothing to decrease personal or collective risks.

(86,868 posts)Seem to hang around for at least five years before they are no longer a major threat while still being a threat, like the flu. Vaccine or no vaccine for the disease, they stay around for about that long.
I'm still wearing masks and staying vaxxed.

(2,847 posts)No one would boost him in the fall, crazy gap caused by our Cuomo clone Governor's insurance shenanigans. Now it's covered, wife caught it in the fall and just waited to get boosted now.
I got the Novavax booster and it was awesome for me. No soreness and I haven't had a sniffle. I stayed symptom free w sick wife right next to me in November. We do use true HEPA filters which are a must for home and workplaces.
One more MAGAT and anti-vax cull could help this year. I'm looking forward the the upcoming universal vaccines for covid and flu.
