But will Fox channel viewers believe a black man that the Universe started in a Big Bang and that we evolved? We can hope.

(13,218 posts)I don't like shows whose title are obscure, e.g. : "Snakes on a Plane". Someday I may have to watch it and find out what that one was about. (Just joking)

(3,059 posts)It was great with Sagan, and I'll bet it'll be every bit as good with DeGrass Tyson...I'm totally looking forward to it! My only concern is my TV exploding if I turn on Fox. Their usual viewers will probably complain about "this science stuff".

(40,416 posts)The local Fox stations do not answer to Rupert's empire. AFAIK.
BTW, my local Fox affiliates are promoting the hell out of Cosmos, several times an hour. I watch the local Fox sub channels that program THISTV (old movies) and AntennaTV (old TV and some old movies). I watched Fail Safe and Mr. Smith goes to Washington the other day, for instance. These are 30 second promotions and are fairly dazzling.
I will be watching all of these.
Neil deGrasse Tyson is awesome. He has charisma = 18, and double saving throw versus pseudoscience and woo-woo.

(21,925 posts)TV seems to get worse every week, with insipid talent shows where only singers seem to be recognized, unwatchable reality shows, sitcoms that get less funny with each passing generation, movie channels that increasingly don't spend money to put the few good films on, 3rd rate horror and science fiction on Sci Fi and Chiller. Shows that are intelligent, informative, fascinating, and entertaining are precious gems within the piles of shit.

I'm locking forward to it - even though it will be on National Geographic where I am - not at fox...
If it is half as good as the orginal Cosmos was in the 1980s - then Im out for a treat, I just hope it dosen't colide with my surgery then...

(7,570 posts)The original one, bless Dr. Sagan's heart, looked like it was crafted out of day-glo Play-Doh and black-light poster paint. Not his fault. It was the best they could do at the time.
This show is going to melt some right-wing heads into red, steaming froth, and I'm going to love every minute of it.
