Stop Solitary Confinement of Youth

It’s practically torture and we’re doing it to our youth?

Every day across the country, young people (as young as 13) are held in solitary confinement with almost no human contact for days or months at a time.

Solitary can amount to torture, and the consequences can be devastating for children because they are still developing – that's why we must stop this cruel practice.

Which is why we’ve joined with the Student Alliance for Prison Reform (SAPR) and launched a campaign to pressure the Attorney General to ban solitary confinement for youth in federal custody.

Please watch the video, sign and share with your friends and family.

Add your voice to the call for justice now – let's make sure that the Attorney General can't ignore this issue any longer.

More info and petition at link.

This is a despicable practice that should be 100% ended, period.

I don't care who they are or what they did or how dangerous they are. It is wrong, cruel, inhumane, and a 1st World country should not be doing it.

It's one thing to 'separate' people, it's another to completely isolate them as they do in these units, sometime simply for very mild 'misbehavior' that some guard didn't 'like'.

Many people don't realize that this type of confinement is rarely imposed by judges, nor is it due to severity of the original crime ... rather, it's imposed by prison wardens who decide for WHATEVER FUCKING REASON they conjure up ... that somebody should be 'thrown in the hole'. Most often it's the mentally ill, people who the prison has trouble dealing with and don't want to invest the $$$ in treating them properly, so they put 'em in solitary.

As you can imagine, THAT usually goes REAL well.
