Foxs Reefer Madness warning on 4/20: Skunk is more dangerous than youre being led to believe

(45,358 posts)Skunk is not and has never been a "type" or "strain" of Cannabis.
Not that it matters at all, Faux doesn't care.

(12,417 posts)Skunk weed, know for its pungent aroma, has been a favorite here in Colorado for decades.
Not necessarily a strain of its own, just a particularity associated with how the plants smell as they grow. Might have something to do with the ground.

(45,358 posts)And it can have any number of names, most of which people just make up to sell their clones or seeds.
But apparently Faux thinks there is a special strain called "Skunk" that is extra powerful. That isn't true.

(15,189 posts)It's just it's description. We had Skunk, Thai, Hawaiian, Mexican. Now they have all kinds of stupid names with fruity or bubble gum smells.

I'm one of those people who don't buy into the marketing of Cannabis strains that happened starting in the 80's. IMO all of the current varieties are more similar than different, they just have differing terpene fingerprints and different ratios of THC/CBD.
I do love the bubblegum characteristic, especially before it is harvested, but my favorite Cannabis odor is Diesel. Mmmmmmm.

(4,079 posts)And as a Coloradan it pisses me off that we're being "blamed" for what they say is "dangerous". They don't even mention that synthetics aren't pot at all. That's why they're legal. And it's the only thing they mentioned that IS ACTUALLY dangerous. Real pot, even strains with high THC content, aren't dangerous. And goddamit, it's NOT addictive!
And synthetics aren't necessarily being produced in CO. The biggest bust I ever saw of people creating synthetic pot was in Pennsylvania.

(260 posts)When <serious guest> said neurotoxin I almost choked. It is one of the least dangerous things you can use for recreation. There is no known LD50 dosage (dosage that on average will kill 50% of those taking it) for humans, in fact I know of no case of someone ever dying from ODing on THC. How many alcohol poisonings are there each year? I don't know but I know greater than zero.
THC does something to us because it has a similar chemical structure to Anandamide. Anandamide is also known as N-arachidonoylethanolamine or AEA, and is an endogenous analogue of tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC.
Now what does that word mean? From wikipedia: The name is taken from the Sanskrit word (and Hinduistic religious term) ananda, which means "joy, bliss, delight", and amide.
Your right about that segue to synthetics too, mere obfuscation. What does that have to do with a discussion about marijuana? Apples and oranges.
Now I don't know what that 'butter' they're talking about is either. The only thing butter brings to mind is cooking with marijuana. weed-butter
You don't have to extract with butane either. I saw it on the news once where it was being done with water, same product in the end, but a little less concentrated.
And none of that addresses the increasing number of medical benefits the canabinoids are being shown to provide.

(480 posts)...it's a process by which the active ingredient, alcohol, is concentrate. And now they're packaging it in half gallon jugs. If you drink a whole one of these half gallon jugs in an hour you could die. Prohibition is the only way to prevent the whole sale collapse of society. You the public cannot be entrusted with your own safety. Only a police state can save you from yourself...
What's that noise? Is somebody having sex? They better not be enjoying it.

The guy on the right may have a valid point though: I'm currently smoking some fairly skunky shit at the time and the giant ferret on the left is talking!

(20,885 posts)There is a proliferation of the myth that Cheech and Chong couldn't get good pot. This is hilarious. Think about it. A few hippies, over a few decades, without resources, were able to fortify pot tenfold, while corporate Syngenta, with GMO technology, hasn't been able to put vitamin A into rice. Well maybe that's irrelevant. Consider that hybridizing has not resulted in any such fortification with any plant.
The problem is that many people, during the sixties, bought hemp that was more appropriate for textiles than getting high.

(12,618 posts)Later today I'm going down to the local medical marijuana club, and I'm going to get me some of that "dangerous" 30% THC stuff, and just know that while I'm puffing it away and enjoying myself immensely, every exhale I make is directed at you, blowing it right in your face.

(841 posts)Most may not believe this but I have some Kush right here that was tested..
It was tested at 27%.. It is the top shelf private reserve from a Dispensary..
No way its Skunk.. Skunk is a strain called Indica.. What we all call skunk came from Northern parts of Asia.. Grown there for thousands of years..
Kush is another Strain grown even today in the Kush Valley in Afghanistan... Our troops had to deal with the huge grows along the Mountains where Snipers would shoot at our troops through the tough growth.. Sometimes these grows would go for miles..
Sativa is a strain grown anywhere near the equator..
Like trees.. Pot strain changes depending on where it is on the Planet.. The leave are skinny and they grow tall in the heat nearer the equator you go..
The opposite for Indicas... They are short and have large fat leaves...
Sativas have the highest levels of THC..
Indicas have more DBDs...
Now the Kush has been grown in Afghanistan for Centuries..
It is bread into what many of us love today..
I Love my OGs.. stands for Ocean grown.. Originated in California on the Coast.. This is what we call a Hybrid... Made up of cross strains..
Many here have had something like a Gangster OG...
I love pure OG the best.. It is the holly Grail of Medical Grade Pot..
Oh and how about that Butter???
I use it to make edibles...
It is a way to get the medicine out leaving the Plant material as waste..
Nothing more..
I have to say Fox and Friends are so freakin Ignorant.. Its mind blowing..
Then to address Pot as if it is the most evil thing it isn't..
Just like they do when this Administration is concerned....

(841 posts)Booker, along with New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D) and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul (R), recently proposed a bill that would remove the threat of federal prosecution for patients using medical marijuana in states where it is legal, while setting in motion scientific investigations into its medical properties.
In the interview with Gupta (found at the 38-minute mark), Booker calls for a revolution in U.S. drug laws.
Our drug laws in this country, as a whole, need a revolution of common sense and compassion, Booker explains.

(841 posts)Reading about events like Denvers 4/20 rally must be very odd to Weldon Angelos. He is serving a 55-year term of incarceration in federal prison for a first offense involving the sale of about $1,000 of marijuana and the possession of firearms that were neither brandished nor used. There is no parole in the federal system. Nor is there much sense in Weldon continuing to suffer a sentence driven by a social consensus that no longer exists.
Weldon sold small amounts of marijuana from his car, while possessing a gun, in Utah. Now, in the next state over (Colorado), taxpaying businesspeople with storefronts sell small amounts of marijuana (and no doubt often possess firearms, as many businesspeople do). Weldon is scheduled for release from prison when he is in his 70s. At that same age, the Colorado marijuana retailer will be retired and living on the 401(k) funds he saved from the pot-selling business.
