(7,421 posts)Howard was riding so high, getting huge crowds, getting a pretty good response in the media, etc then as soon as the Iowa primary came around - KaBoom!
All the power of the Dem establishment and their minions came down on Dean like a landslide.
It was easy in the Iowa caucus environment to intimidate people. Kennedy and Kerry sent in their stalwarts - I was watching on tv and saw them surround little groups of Dean people at the various caucus scenarios. I wouldn't want to have been in their spot.

She is has no idea about Democratic politics except that she will remain to the Right of every issue.

(22,271 posts)You are absolutely correct. I've been trying to raise this issue for a couple of weeks now. Never EVER underestimate the Party Machine.
The Party Faithful are already circling the wagons here in California with "liberal" (cough cough) San Francisco going strongly for Hillary. Oakland? Not so much. Don't know about L.A. The Central Valley's liberal activists who never sleep and never miss an election are going strong for Bernie. The Establishment Dems here are wholly ineffectual which can be seen by the fact that there are more registered Democrats here than Republicans and the Democrats couldn't win an election locally if they had Diebold machines rigged in their favor.
We need to be vigilant and we need to be ready for the Dirty Tricks because they are most definitely coming.

(2,075 posts)If this isn't a sign that the voters are totally disgusted and fed up with corporate politics as usual, I don't know what is. Watch out, Hillary! Bernie's closing in fast!
As for the dirty tricks, I was out of the country when the whole thing fell down on Howard Dean. When I left the country, he was riding high on his big surge. When I came back, Howard Dean was a has-been, and had dropped out of the race - and I wondered what the heck had happened. Many years later, I saw the incident - the big whoop he let out at a rally - that was the supposed cause of his downfall. But really, was a persistently negative media spin on a campaign war whoop the only thing that drove Dean into the ground? Please enlighten me!
