Jim Jefferies - US Gun Control - Live Stand Up Comedy - Best comedian ever 2015
......................
By Ana Swanson June 19
"I'm going to talk about something now that sort of splits the crowd a little bit," Australian comedian Jim Jefferies says. "Gun control."
"Don't get excited," he continues, "because the other people have guns!"
"Shhhhh."
In this hilarious act, Jefferies says he believes in the right of Americans to have gun, but seems skeptical of the argument -- often made by gun rights activists often claim -- that Americans need guns for their own security.
"In Australia we had guns, right up until 1996. In 1996 Australia had the biggest massacre on earth. Still hasn't been beaten," Jefferies says. "Now after that they banned guns. Now in the 10 years before Port Arthur, there were 10 massacres. Since the gun ban in 1996, there hasn't been a single massacre since. I don't know how or why this happened. Maybe it was a coincidence."

Highlights:
"There is one argument and one argument only for having guns and the argument is ...fuck off, I LIKE guns!"
"i have had people come up to me in parking lots after a show and say 'you can't change the second amendment! And I said, 'Yes, you can. It's called an amendment. If you can't change a thing called an amendment many of you need a thesaurus more than you need an amendment".
"I am a responsible gun owner, I keep my guns in a locked safe....then what fucking good are they?!"

(111,478 posts)There's a joke photo of the typical US breakfast circulating around that features one egg, a plate piled high with bacon, and a handgun.
It's amazing how many people outside the country expect us all to be crazed lunatics with arsenals in our basement (and bats in our belfries).
They're shocked when I tell them I don't have a gun, I'm too afraid somebody would take it away from me and shoot me with it.
If I lived outside the city, I'd have a shotgun. Those are a necessity in bear country. A handgun? Never.

(8,692 posts)He was actually quite surprised when I told him I wasn't carrying a gun, didn't own a gun and had no interest in guns and didn't have the foggiest idea where a nearby shooting range was and you could stop a hundred people at random here (Orange County, CA) and probably not find a single person who was carrying a gun because it is extremely difficult to get a permit here.
This guy was actually expecting me to roll up my pant leg and hand him a pistol.

(8,292 posts)Thanks for sharing that. I love a good comic but that guy has us pegged and we should be ashamed.
What a perfect way to explain the gun violence in this country to change folks' mind.

(8,409 posts). . . who was commenting a friend's post that mentioned the increased likelihood of death by suicide in homes where a gun is present. The gun nut, clearly too clever by half, asked:
My response:
What the research has found is that suicide attempts -- ATTEMPTS, not deaths -- are roughly the same in state with relatively low levels of gun ownership as they are in states with relatively high levels of gun ownership. But having a gun in the home increases (a) the likelihood that a suicidal person will opt for a gun as the method of choice, which in turn (b) drastically increases the likelihood that the attempt will be successful (so to speak). It's pretty straightforward -- nothing mysterious or hard to understand at all.
