1938-Roosevelt signed the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Giving us a better standard of living and increasing purchasing power of farm and factory

Set the standard for 8 hr. day/40 hr. work week/minimum wage of .25 cents an hour/restricted child labor

Roosevelt knew business was not pleased so he would give this speech at his fire side chat.

"Do not let any calamity howling executive with an income of 1,000 dollars a day who's been turing his employees over to the Govt. relief rolls in order to preserve his companies undistributed reserves tell you that a wage of eleven dollars a week is going to have a disastrous effect on all American industry"

If they have to pay those wages to their workers….Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson using prison labor to avoid paying for health care benefits. Or the Walmart workers who can't earn enough to afford insurance so they need to take try and get state benefits.
