(8,812 posts)With all due respect, I don't understand the obsession with Trump, who, mark my words, will never get anywhere near the White House. He is a serious distraction from core issues whose principal role is to make normally radical politicians seem level-headed in comparison. Frankly, I regret that I even wasted some of my time commenting on this tabloid buffoon but the prevalence of these stories is difficult to ignore.

(32,078 posts)He's rising in Republican primary polls. He's doing a frick ton to drive the bigots and regressive thinkers to the polls in 2016.

(3,284 posts)But now I fear he may turn into a modern Reagan.
Saw a clip on TYT about how people are reacting positively to his belligerence. Definitely something that we're seeing here. He's got name recognition, which seems to be a huge key. He's built his brand for so long, and people like it.
I'm hoping it's not going to be true (and I don't really think it is), but there's this outside chance that his fame will work for him in that way.
Symptom of a sickness in the system.

(135,425 posts)Media loves to focus on 1) The horse race (even if there isn't one) and 2) The outliers. Weirdos and No-chancers are like spices in a bowl of bland rice.
There are no "serious distraction(s)" from "core issues" at this stage of the game. We won't be going to the polls to pick a President for well over a year. The primaries are well in the distance, so are the debates (which is when people start to focus) and "inattentive summer" is here, where no one wants hard news and everyone is on holiday.
Trump is like a soup simmering on the back burner of the stove--always ready to serve up at a moment's notice.
Of course, ignore is your friend if you can't bear him. I regard him as the GOP harbinger--even more so when some of those idiots openly embrace him.
Kucinich didn't have a hope in hell of getting anywhere near the White House, either, but that didn't stop him from eating up a shitload of bandwidth here. People like to chat--it's amusing. And there's no one funnier than Loudmouth "The Donald" who also manages to make one realize that money doesn't buy everything.

(18,470 posts)I'm having my car worked on and they had it on in the waiting room. Andrea Tantaros and the rest of the reich wing windbags were going on about the shooting in California and about how Donald Trump had a point. I turned it to local news the first chance I got. First because we may have some severe weather around here and I wanted to see the weather, and second because I want to see actual news, not a televised Klan rally.

(15,139 posts)house, a couple of R's were going on and on about how they plan on voting for Trump because he's the only one willing to take on the "illegals" and how the "liberals" and Obama (of course) have "blood on their hands" for the SF shooting.
Judging by comments I've seen in news articles about the shooting, I'd say there is a sizeable contingent of people who'd be likely to vote for Trump on this issue alone. Yes, he's a noxious, oportunistic windbag, but the racist message he's spreading is one that, unfortunately, represents the view of many R primary voters.

(23,946 posts)openly racist Trump as the Crazy Uncle.....but then how come there are still so many Welcome! mats outside the "big tent"?
CNN, you on this?
Amnesia has always been the GOP's best friend, but erasing the recent memory of Trump is gonna take some heavy lifting.

(81,608 posts)And he gets to be the victim because of his wife. Turns him into a more sympathetic character. And THAT we do NOT need.
I have been loving Donald Trump's trashing of the brand. But now I'm wondering if maybe it isn't time for him to STFU. DO NOT give any of these assholes, ESPECIALLY jeb bush, a chance to climb up out of the muck and look like either an "innocent" victim or a sympathetic character, or even a hero. RULE # ONE!!!

(21,856 posts)I have apparently been saying loudly "You Piece of Sh*t!" at the television whenever Ted Cruz appears.
I didn't realize it until I saw my small terrier dog cowering in the corner of the room. I guess when I shouted he thought it was meant for him.

(2,013 posts)You're conveniently leaving out what he said RIGHT after that... he does ASSUME that SOME Mexicans are good people! I mean, he's not 100% SURE (like he is about the rape, and all), but he assumes that some HAVE to be good people (probably strictly statistically speaking). So lay off the Don.
Oh, for god's sake, do I REALLY need this? Ugh... just in case...

(38,613 posts)Despite his recent statements about the types of undocumented Mexicans who come over the border, and his stubborn refusal to walk those statements back as hes seen business deals crumble, a Washington Post article on Tuesday revealed that Donald Trump may be reliant upon undocumented-immigrant labor to construct his latest real-estate development.
The Post interviewed several construction workers and day laborers working on Trumps new $200 million Washington, D.C., hotel, and discovered that some were undocumented immigrants, afraid for their jobs in light of Trumps announcement. Others, who agreed to be interviewed on the record, said they were once undocumented immigrants who obtained legal status, and expressed disgust at Trumps disparaging comments.
The majority of us are Hispanics, many who came illegally, Ivan Arellano, a mason who originally came from Mexico and eventually gained his legal status through marriage, told the Post. And were all here working very hard to build a better life for our families.
