Some of my family members are like this. They are bitter about the way the country has turned out. They feel alienated and are mad at all of the usual suspects. The supposedly liberal media, young people and especially college students, colleges and professors, minorities, the list goes on and on. They are not happy with their lives and I think they do seem to have a kind of "burn it down" mentality. The odd thing is that they are not happy with corporate America either but that anger seems to take second place to the parade of liberal boogeymen.

I would add, though, that there are other Trump supporters who are fine with the world as it is but mainly voted for Trump because they wanted tax cuts or other right-wing economic policies put into place. I think there is a tendency among liberals to focus too much on working-class and middle-class Trump supporters who may have voted for him out of anger over cultural change while ignoring the upscale Republicans who may not have liked Trump's style but still voted for him because they wanted tax cuts or less regulations or other economic policies that are standard for Republicans.

They have been programmed to hate, to be angry and afraid for so many years of RW radio and TV (Fox) they don't care as long as it hurts us! They don't think ahead to what this will do to them because they are so full of hate and anger. They just laugh when I try to describe why Trump is so bad.

We have been playing around with things we didn't understand were dangerous. Our media, our environment, and our campaign finance system. TPTB have been planning and inching their way since Reagan for total control. Now they are having a field day and going for everything on their wish list! Our SS will be the ultimate prize.

I love how he put that in context. I agree with everything that he said. The Republicans that I know really feel that way. They are bitter and angry and look at Democrats as an enemy on the same level as ISIS. It is truly pathetic on how they have let themselves be brainwashed this way.

The root of the problem is the history of slavery in the U.S.

For 250+ years, they stole labor from African Americans. They stole land from the indigenous people.

When slavery was made illegal, it did not solve the problem. It created another set of problems which continue today.

You're right - they're still fighting the Civil War.

They're perfectly happy voting against their own best interests, if those interests help their neighbors too. Their hate for you and me is pure and indivisible. What DL Hughley makes more clearly is where and perhaps when that hate for their fellow American solidified.

It may not matter much soon anyway. Sounds like the war hawks are beating the drums again about N. Korea.

Interesting take. There is certainly a ring of truth to his observations. Sad that anyone would rather our country died, but it sure seems that is what they want.

I still remember watching his Daily Show host broadcast - and of those I saw, I thought his was the best. I remember that he had a US map and talked about "red states" and "blue states."

And he's always excellent when he's been on with Bill Maher. I don't remember the exact quote, but the essence of what he said was that the "pro-life" movement only values the "unborn," but once a child is born, he's on his own. Perceptive and smart guy!

Trump, that they hated black people more than they liked their own feet. Sharp humour will stick with people more than pronouncements from Democratic congress people. We are lucky to have so many comedians on the front lines.

And this really is a perfect storm for comedians! There is so much material - but we are so lucky to have them since we need humor now more than ever!
