Related: About this forumI Disagreed With His Views, But I'm Going To Miss Charles Krauthammer. John McCain, Too.
Both John McCain and Charles Krauthammer are about to depart this world, thanks to the scourge of cancer, and I'm going to miss them both. I disagreed with most of what both of them said, but at least they thought for themselves. They weren't the standard, pathetic, brainwashed 'conservatives' who are now blindly following a would-be dictator with the emotional maturity of a seven year old.
The Trump takeover of the GOP has highlighted that about 95% of them were just spineless crooks, who mouthed a lot of talking points they didn't believe in. We now know that was a waste of energy on their part, because Republican/ 'conservative' tribalism has evolved to the point where it literally doesn't matter WHAT they say, or claim to believe. As long as they claim to hate LIBERALS, and as long as they wave a bible in one hand and a gun in the other, the entire tribe will support them.
Not so, at least, for Charles Krauthammer, who was opposed to Trump from the beginning. Here he is giving a dose of straight talk to the second biggest Trump ass-licker on Faux News, Laura Ingraham. (The biggest ass-licker being Hannity, of course.)
I've definitely missed Krauthammer over the last ten months while he's been ill, and am definitely sad he won't be returning. God's speed Charles.

(24,353 posts)I don't know when he left that position
That's probably part of the reason why he didn't blindly jump on the trump bandwagon
I liked him. Disagreed with him. But, I did like him -- I met him five times during the 80's and 90's
He was a nice person

(37,166 posts)Trump became president because of decades worth of conservatives paving the road for him. Charles Krauthammer was part of that road crew, too busy doing an intellectual version of foaming at Democrats to notice what he was aiding and abetting.
And, should a wondrous cure or miracle happen in time to save him, all indications are he'd go right back to it.
The man had his priorities, and those priorities gave us Trump. And he was too busy troweling scorn on Democrats to notice what was happening around him.
So, to me, his anti-Trump comments are "too little, too late."
