(206,853 posts)I have a dog and a cat, only met a pet piggy in person one time - I was at a meeting where a girl brought her pet pig! Needless to say, no one was paying much attention to what was being said, they were all focused on the piggy, reaching out to pet him or take his pic with their phones. He was extremely friendly!

(21,719 posts)You know Pickle? Small world!
Since my Shar Pei passed on (she was an angel), I've been thinking of getting something like a miniature pig. I've only heard good things about them.
A former neighbor had one - a Vietnamese pot-bellied pig. Smartest - and possibly cutest - pet I've ever seen of any kind.

(21,719 posts)And well said. I'm not Asian myself (Italian/French/Polish); but growing up there we had several very nice Chinese neighbors (mostly older couples) who first mentioned all this to me.
Over the years I've noticed there's some truth to it. Though Rabbits, for instance, are said to be lucky; but, as yet, I haven't noticed.
Maybe I've been lucky - just not in the ways one usually expects (i.e. money, romance, etc.).
On another note, "enjoy" the SOTU tonight. If you can make it past the heavy breathing and spitting noise, you're made of sterner stuff than I.
Cheeto's incapable of speaking into a microphone without like some perv prank caller. Which of course in a way he is.

One of my favorite restaurant fortune cookies from the 70s - "if you don't get what you want, think of all the things you don't want that you don't get."
May your luck become obvious!

(42,862 posts)Where was the white pig in the purple blanket? (The one on the freeze-frame before the video starts.) I didn't see him anywhere in the actual video. Did I overlook him?

(21,719 posts)Perhaps the YouTube poster cut him out (poor thing), or used a stock photo.
I once had a neighbor with a Vietnamese pot-bellied pig (miniature). Best pet ever - with the possible exception of my dear Shar Pei Bodie, who passed away two years ago. She and the pig (Mack) got along great.

(14,180 posts)All animals are cute when they are babies. One has to commit to a pet for its entire life, or don't get it. Too many of these pigs are abandoned once they get bigger. Its sad. That is what I am thinking when watching this.

Pig-friendly sanctuaries across the country are becoming inundated with surrendered "teacup pigs" and well-intentioned pig parents are realizing they've bitten off more than they can chew. But what happens to the pigs?
"Teacup" pigs have become so popular in recent years that "backyard breeders" for pigs have cropped up everywhere, and animal sanctuaries are now struggling to keep up. Unfortunately, too many prospective pig parents do not understand the space, money, and time that pig care requires; by the time they find they're in over their heads, it is too late for the not-so-little piggies to have a "normal" life.

(21,719 posts)There's a real dark side to this. They're so stinking cute, it's easy to forget.
Perhaps it's why I've never gotten one, as much as I like them (a neighbor had one).
