McCain wipes the grin off McConnell's face

ELIZABETH WARREN: You remember what was at stake. This was about rolling health care back for millions and millions and millions of people. And we were a 48-52 Senate at that moment. The bill had already passed the House. And we all knew if it got even to 50-50, people were going to lose health care around this country, because the vice president would break the tie and roll back this health care.

I was standing at the desk — I just couldn’t sit down. I was too anxious and watching the votes.

We had all the Democrats — that’s 48. Susan Collins voted no. That gave us 49. Lisa Murkowski voted no. That gave us 50. Those were all the known commitments.

You’re looking around: Is there anybody else who might vote to save health care for all of these families? Where’s John McCain? He’s not there.

And (then) he rounds the corner, and I remember standing there watching, and he comes around that corner. No fuss, no muss, waiting for his name again.

Who knew? Well, every Republican was stunned but it seems like someone might have tipped off Bernie.

12. He could have been saying "here's where we lose", or anything else. Until this morning....

...I was more interested in Warren's and Schumer's reactions before and after the vote.

That video isn't even part of the article, by the way - I DID watch the video in the Washington Post article.

He came animated just before McCain cast his vote. The Republicans were absolutely shocked. Bernie seemed to be expecting something out of the ordinary.

Nudges his colleague - points - as if he has been forewarned - before McCain votes.

but I thought it was interesting in a grassy knoll kind of way. Every one thought McCain with vote to kill the ACA - but Bernie became animated just before McCain voted.

16. "Forewarned"? ... Really? I didn't interpret it that way at all.

"Forewarned"? ... Really? I didn't interpret it that way at all.

If anything, the non-verbal cues appear to be saying "Heads up! Here he goes! This is it. Pay attention. You're watching history."

I didn't see anything that would indicate any type of foreknowledge or that he had been "forewarned". The reporter/narrator (Jeanie Most?) of the video piece has it right.

I don’t wan’t to make too much of this but why nudge and point if McCain was going to vote as expected.

I wish I’d never mentioned Bernie. McConnell was humiliated. I dislike that viper even more than Trump. Killing the ACA was a ‘f’ing big deal’ and he failed.

For the exact reasons that I had previously described. REGARDLESS of how McCain voted, everyone was already aware that it was going to be a history-making, memorable, and decisive vote.

The reporter has it right that Bernie nudges Senator Shaheen "as if to say: watch this" ... and no reasonable person can infer much else beyond that. I'm sure Bernie knew it was going to be an historic vote EITHER WAY, and encouraging his colleague to watch history in the making does not suggest that he had any "forewarning" of how McCain was going to vote.

Unless there's more that you're not sharing with us, there's simply not enough information (and not enough clues) in that 2-second moment to infer much else in Bernie's "watch this" gesture.

I wish I’d never mentioned Bernie. McConnell was humiliated.
Yes. Yes he was. I have the greatest contempt for him as well.

But has done nothing to restrain him. His Oath of Office was as worthless as his party.
