(21,795 posts)I don't follow football much myself; but I lived in Mississippi for a several years and remember some of the SEC football banter.
It's serious business down there.

Oh Alabama
The devil fools
With the best laid plan
Swing low Alabama
You got the spare change
You got to feel strange
And now the moment
Is all that it meant
Alabama, you got
The weight on your shoulders
That's breaking your back
Your Cadillac
Has got a wheel in the ditch
And a wheel on the track
Oh Alabama
Banjos playing
Through the broken glass
Windows down in Alabama
See the old folks
Tied in white robes
Hear the banjo
Don't it take you down home?
Alabama, you got
The weight on your shoulders
That's breaking your back
Your Cadillac
Has got a wheel in the ditch
And a wheel on the track
Oh Alabama
Can I see you
And shake your hand
Make friends down in Alabama
I'm from a new land
I come to you
And see all this ruin
What are you doing Alabama?
You got the rest of the union
To help you along
What's going wrong?

(6,274 posts)They often can't afford to leave the state to get an abortion.
This is typical Republicanism.
They're all for forcing women to give birth to babies they don't want to have, and then they have absolutely no concern about the child after it is born.
So, these children grow up in poverty, ignorance and despair.
This contributes to the high crime rate, and drug usage.
Way to go Alabama!
The home of love and compassion...not!

It's a wonder people and multinationals aren't streaming to Alabama to enjoy such benefits.

(2,160 posts)Considering Alabama's history of racism, of lynching, of segregation of refusing to serve or help black children, this woman has some kind of nerve to preach about the sanctity of life. She's all about that until you bring up the subject of black kids.

(10,358 posts)I suspect the worst schools, poorest health care, highest teen birth rates, highest infant mortality rates, neighborhoods with out-of-control crime and areas with the fewest economic opportunities are found in predominantly black counties. Just as intended.

(5,533 posts)is forging ahead, back to the Dark Ages.
. . . . almost there. Have a baby you don't want, but don't expect any support once the child is born. Education for the child? Employment opportunities for the child? Nope. Is he/she going to grow up to be a law abiding citizen, a patriot that loves his country? Odds on, I'd bet against it.
Time for another Dark Ages solution to unwanted pregnancies, the chastity belt?
Alabama . . . you don't want to be born there, you don't want to live there, you sure as hell want to avoid visiting it.
(If you really need to visit, wind your watch back a few centuries.)

(5,533 posts)This sort of treatment of it's citizens in any other Democracy would lead to a major revolt and backlash from voters at the ballot box.
Wake up Alabama! Or do you like or want to be treated like idiot children, who can't make important life decisions for themselves?
