in north central WA state. I have seen some bad fires. I have been around some bad fires. I have friends who have lost everything to bad fires.

That said, what the Australians are dealing with this summer season is an order of magnitude worse than anything I've seen anywhere in our country. So the question is, why aren't we offering to send supplies, equipment, aircraft, and personnel to assist our allies in dealing with the holocaust they are living through. Why are we trying to start a new disaster when there is already one that needs to be dealt with?

so that's very likely part of the help they're getting. I think they're going to have to rethink a few things after this year, like their all volunteer, unpaid fire brigades. At least they finally called in the military to help them, the firefighters have got to be exhausted.

At this point, cash is probably one of the best things we in the US can send them. Aussies themselves have been suggesting the Australian Red Cross as one of the best places to send it, as they're organizing temporary shelter, food and water for evacuees.

And yes, this is much worse than anything except maybe the 1991 Oakland firestorm. Vegetation is different in Australia, there are lots of eucalyptus trees, AKA firebombs. Invasive eucalyptus contributed heavily to the Oakland fire, as I recall.

probably because of the intense blowback over the Hawaiian vacation while these fires were getting serious.

He hasn't thrown paper towels or garden hoses at the evacuees, at any rate and isn't nearly as clueless and tone deaf to suffering as the Orange Slug. He's bothering to be a decent actor, at any rate, while the OS couldn't be bothered if they're people who don't count like me and thee.

your life. I don't think people realize just how quickly these flames can travel, especially with the wind (brisk) at its back and a dry landscape. We experience these in the Ozarks where some people have started brush fires and before you know it, they've had to call the volunteer fire dept out!

They're deceived by movies or TV shows that portray people returning to burning buildings to rescue something. Most people who do that die.
