when one faction within the CIA (if I misrembmber) recruited a bunch of Cuban hotheads and mercenaries and promised them air support so they could all take "their" island back. Well, they didn't have full government backing at any point in this debacle and Kennedy got wind of it and said"hell no" to the air support and the landing force got shot up and there were a lot of very bruised egos in government and in a few organizations who wanted their stake in Havana back. I've always thought that mess led directly to Kennedy's assassination, but theories about that are a dime a dozen.
This looks like the sort of cut rate operation a fool like Pompeo would try to float, some jerkwater wannabe company wanting to play with the big boys and, being wannabes, had no idea on how to do any of the stuff they promised they'd do and trying to do it on a minimal down payment.
He's right about one thing, it's bizarre, but it's also typical of this sick joke of an administration. I also agree that we need to call off the attack dogs and let Venezuela settle its own problems. I doubt Maduro would last a whole lot longer if we'd stop interfering. In fact, the whole world would be a better place if we'd stop meddling whenever some rich guy screams about reforms hurting his cash flow.
