I'd say the talking point the GOP voters are fed is misleading, but not only by saying "you can't cross the aisle," but also in claiming that the GOP stays loyal to itself and its principles. What happened here was not anything based on conviction about the issues, but just the action by the MAGA nuts to throw a monkey wrench into the GOP. They did not so much vote "with" Democrats, as against Republicans. But that's probably too nuanced for Beau's correspondent.

Of course it's also too nuanced for Beau, after all, he says himself he's not too smart. (that's sarcasm, incidentally)
