This evening I sat in a bar
With hopes I could write over thar
As my mind filled with shit
And my head in a twit
Wherever I went, there you are!

That disturbed my mind quite a bit
So I sat on my cushion
And without any pushin'
Discovered that I was a twit.

In Buddhism, we call it "monkey mind." Mind never stops working. Forever kicking out thoughts and feelings. Forever changing and moving. Creating a dramatic story with you in the starring role. You can train your mind to calm down through meditation. But you have to actually sit down and meditate every day.

I was sitting in deep contemplation
My breathing in beat meditation
From my discursive mind
My monkeys confined
I felt light and a more free sensation.

My mind is simply so big
It deserves to be thrown in the brig
It relentlessly weaves
And to ego it cleaves
Oh when will it give up the jig?
