I heard about this on tv this morning. You offer to send a care package to a family in the USVI or Puerto Rico or wherever you choose. The organization has wish lists from families and you can send the items in a large priority flat rate box.

It seems like a good way to get specific items to a family in need.
Here's a video from the morning show with more information.

(12,858 posts)I remember we'd periodically bring stuff like soap, etc. There was a list of needed items. They were pretty small boxes - maybe 12''x4''x4''. Each student filled one, maybe once or twice a month. I think there may have been chance to add a small toy. And now that I think about it, the boxes were labelled for a boy or a girl. So maybe hairpins, etc?
IIRC, at my school each home- room had a representstive on the school's jr red cross council.

Seems like a fun way to do something. Money is always good but this seems like it will help with very direct, personal needs.
what a thoughtful and needed thing to do.
