(40,416 posts)Getz/Gilberto was one of the great jazz albums of the early sixties and this song was justifiably the headliner.
Just in case, this is the version from the album, a bit longer than the single.
BTW, according to Wiki, recorded in 1963, released in 1964.
On edit: I see your version is the version from the album, one of the greatest jazz albums ever. My video is the same cut.
I couldn't think of a better exemplar of a "girl" song.

(27,935 posts)who changed their name to first The Ermines and later The Premiers.
The Premiers lead singer was Herman Santiago.
Frankie Lyman helped Santiago and tenor sax player Jimmy Merchant rewrite a song they had composed to create "Why Do Fools Fall In Love"
The song got them an audition with Gee Records, but on the day of the audition, Santiago was too sick to sing, so Lyman sang the lead on "Why Do Fools Fall In Love" instead, and the group was signed to "Gee" as The Teenagers, with Lymon as lead singer.

(322 posts)Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers were the best doo wop group IMO.

(1,474 posts)Just love Rock. Someone said Girl With No Eyes. Unbelievable.
I used to sing Girl With No Brains to my daughter. She was smarter than me and new it. Bombay Calling also good song. I have had Its A Beautiful Day since I was a kid. LP, CD, flac (ripped from my CD).

(112,712 posts)I don't believe they could get away those lyrics in contemporary times, but things were different back in the 60s.

(206,917 posts)That said, this was not my favorite of their songs. Even back then, I recognized it as kinda creepy.

(112,712 posts)However, there is also an element of insatiable lust of someone incapable of controlling his own actions.

(206,917 posts)Though I was definitely a "late bloomer." And you're right, it would probably be seen as politically incorrect today - though, of their songs, this melody had a lot going for it.

(14,037 posts)Definitely a product of it's times (1974).
Bill walked me to my door last night,
And he said, Before I go
There's something about our love affair,
That I have a right to know
I said, Let's not stand out here like this,
What would the neighbors think?
Why don't we just step inside,
And I'll fix us both a drink.
My girl Bill
My, my, girl Bill
Can't say enough about the way I feel,
About my girl, my girl Bill.
William's hands were shaking,
As he took his glass of wine.
And I could see we both felt the same,
And when his eyes met mine,
I said, Who we love and why we love,
It's hard to understand.
Let's just sit here on the couch,
And face this, man to man.
My girl Bill
My, my, girl Bill
Can't say enough about the way I feel,
About my girl, my girl Bill.
Bill, you know we just left her place,
And we both know what she said.
She doesn't want to see your face,
And she wishes you were dead!
Now, I know we both love her,
And I guess we always will.
But you're gonna have to find another,
'Cause she's my girl, Bill!
My girl Bill
My, my, girl Bill
Can't say enough about the way I feel,
About my girl, talkin' 'bout my little girl,
My girl, Bill.
