Mine is First Aid Kit's Ruins. It's a bit more raw than Stay Gold (one of the most beautiful albums you will hear), but they don't lose their folk/rock charm. Another outstanding album from them. Here's the Allmusic review and info:

(60,036 posts)Now that ECM has essentially their full jazz catalog on line, I am using my Echo and Amazon Prime music to stream full albums much of the day...it's really great - I pick an artist - Kenny Wheeler, Dave Holland, Pat Metheny - and just totally digest all of their stuff.
I also stream lots of Ambient - Eno, Stars of the Lid, etc. Really works well as background when I am writing.
Miles Archer
(18,837 posts)...if you're not, I highly recommend After the Night Falls, Before the Day Breaks, Mirrorball and Bordeaux...all collaborations with Harold Budd.
I went through a period a few years ago where those albums constituted most of what I listened to, as well as the 5 albums he released on his own. The albums with Budd have a distinctive sound, and of course, he worked with Eno as well.

I've heard lots of full albums over the past month - includes albums by Queen, the Kinks, the Beatles, Willie Nelson, several classical artists and local bands.
Enjoy my music and podcasts during the day.

(33,643 posts)Pretty sure that was the last start-to-finish listening ...
Pretty solid disc ... not as heart-stoppingly-holy-shit awesome as "Lost In The Dream" was, but it's still damn good. Have to throw in a vid from that one, just in case anyone somehow missed it. Perhaps my fave album of the 10's, I have to say.

(33,643 posts)Think it was the 2nd to last big show I saw ... Jason Isbell was the last ... it was pretty good but it's asking a lot of Daltrey to sing that whole album at this point. He was wrecked by the end. Then did a few more songs after that too like Won't Get Fooled Again and Who Are You. The attempt was ... valiant. Loved their tribute to Entwistle ... Classic album ...

(796 posts)or oldies(40s, 50s, 60s) radio. don't like streaming stuff, seems wrong for some reason. i've always been a full album guy. if there's only one song on it that's good, it doesn't get played too often. i'm trying to go through my collection for the benefit of my 10 yr old son. we've been listening to recently:
Tennessee Ernie Ford-This Lusty Land
Beatles-early and late lp's
the Replacements- Live 86(awesome!)
Peter Paul & Mary-Moving
Bongwater-Double Bummer
Rush-Moving Pictures
those are the ones at the front of the stack.

(33,643 posts)There a lotta songs from Tim?
Are they playing in remotely competent fashion on it?
sweetloukillbot
(11,159 posts)And yes, they're pretty competent - more competent than when i saw them open for Tom Petty at least, and a whole lot more competent than "The Shit Hits the Fans".

(33,643 posts)I'd bet Paul really wishes he could have a do-over on that era ... that was their shot, and they blew it.
Making a better album would've helped, though I still love a few songs on that disc ... I actually really liked the much-maligned final album All Shook Down ... which was solo Paul in all but name. That was my senior year at college and I listened to it ALL the time back then. Had a ton of catchy tunes, just had to sort of forget who they had been circa-Let It Be and Tim and take it for what it was. Tim and Pleased To Meet Me will always represent 'College' for me, along with Lifes Rich Pageant & Document & Green, and Kick, and Joshua Tree & Rattle & Hum and The Queen Is Dead ... oh, and Disintegration, of course, among many others ...

(11,159 posts)The headlining show was not too bad - a little sloppy and drunk, but a good Mats show. I saw Paul solo about 10 years ago and it was a little looser than that show.
The Petty show was exactly what I'd heard Mats shows were like - incoherent, drunk and not giving a fuck.
My big regret - when they reunited a few years ago, they were headlining a festival in Phoenix. The rest of the bill was crap so I decided I'd just pick up tickets at the gate that evening and just catch them. There were plenty of tickets available so it should've been no problem.
Then a major monsoon blew through shortly before the festival was supposed to kick off, and a microburst completely destroyed the stage - they cancelled the festival.
But the Mats and one of the openers still wanted to play, so they moved them to a 1000-seat club. Didn't sell any tix at the door, only honored previously sold tickets on first-come, first serve basis. People were already packed in the place at 4 p.m. and the Mats weren't scheduled to play till 10. I was screwed.
It was the first time the Mats had played a club in 20 years, and by all accounts it was one of the greatest shows they ever played.
mr_lebowski
(33,643 posts)I'm in PHX area too, obviously.
Didn't know they moved the gig, but glad I didn't find out as I was just gonna show up and didn't have a ticket so wouldn't have got in.
At least there's some youtube vids from those late-era tours. Kinda hoping a well-made actual video/doc will come out.
Peace!

Whole thing is pretty good, but the title track is one my top 5 all-time favorite Van songs now ... love that tune ...
