(2,924 posts)Judges? A Whiter Shade Of Pale!
HopeAgain

(6,288 posts)Lyrics:
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly
Turned a whiter shade of pale
The song came about from seeing a plastered-drunk girl turn whiter than pale before she puked.
This is the truth!
When I read of its origin, it kinda lost the beauty of the song.
But the music far makes up for the actual reason it came to be.

(6,288 posts)The album is an unplayable keepsake at this point.
I think the cherry from a joint fell on it., so there's a long skip in at the beginning of White Bird.
An unfortunate moment in history 😞

(1,474 posts)and posted something about Bombay Calling and how I used to tease my daughter by singing Girl With No Brains. We listened to the album together and she asked me if that's where I got the song from. I didn't think almost anyone else would know the song.

(1,474 posts)We listened mainly to Unplugged in New York. He loved Nirvana and I learned to love them by listening to them with him. Kurt Cobain loved the Beatles. But yea, I agree, 60's and 70's music is the best.

(1,474 posts)It is a classic. California Rock. The song is actually about living in Seattle, WA.

(14,045 posts)From Wikipedia - Black and White (Three Dog Night song)
The song was inspired by the United States Supreme Court decision of Brown v. Board of Education (1954), which outlawed racial segregation of public schools.
The original lyrics of the song opened with this verse, in reference to the court:
Their robes were black, Their heads were white,
The schoolhouse doors were closed so tight,
Nine judges all set down their names,
To end the years and years of shame.
However, the version of the song recorded by Greyhound, and subsequently covered by Three Dog Night, did not include this verse - making the song more universal, but also less historically specific.
