I do it this way, since I have a DVR.
I use it to "tape" the actual Super Bowl and Animal Planet's "Puppy Bowl."
And I watch on the Hallmark channel, the kitten bowl.
Later I watch the Super Bowl from the DVR, skipping the actual game so I can see the ads.

(14,400 posts)usually just the family but sometimes a couple of friends come over. The Pats and Eagles might bring some people over, we have ties to both NE and Philly.
We order a big platter from a really good local BBQ place and usually have some snacks and desserts on hand.

(116,003 posts)This year will be worse than usual because I live in the city where it's being held, and which blew our taxes to build an architectural monstrosity of a stadium in order to entice the NFL to have it here. The stupid game is turning Minneapolis into a temporary shithole. Meh.
I'll probably watch Kitten Bowl, though.

(15,394 posts)When Janet Jackson was performing at halftime. I was IM'ing with a friend in Seattle (I was in Tulsa), and her husband was watching the game while we chatted. She informed me of the, "wardrobe malfunction," immediately upon it happening and then suggested a contest on who could find an image of it on the internet first. At just over 9 minutes, I won.

(14,565 posts)I very seldom watch sporting events live anymore. I don't do social media and I don't have a smart phone so there's never any problem avoiding results or updates.
I fast forward through the commercials, including at the Super Bowl.
For a couple of years I made the mistake of watching the game with my sister's family. That was unbearable. Beyond unbearable. They didn't know a damn thing about the players or the sport. It was obsession with the stupid commercials and little else.

(265 posts)We have a tendency to spend February out of the country, somewhere warm. A couple of years ago we were at a park and fly in San Francisco on our way to Bangkok. If we're home, we typically attend a large party with friends where we will eat, drink and watch the game and this year would be no different. Even though I'm now retired, I think the Monday after Super Bowl should be a holiday. Employees are worthless the next day anyway.
