Okay, I know nothing about cars, have a medical condition and I cant drive. My elderly mother has a car and the security light flashes when she is not using the car.
I guess it doesnt drain the battery, but is their a way she can turn it off?

(26,717 posts)If its fused, it may be possible to pull the fuse to turn it off. Best bet is to take it to have a mechanic look at it. In some cases if there is a power interruption the alarm will activate.

(25,327 posts)it's to let you know the security system is operational. It's not a significant drain on battery.

(1,759 posts)It will not drain the battery. It lets you know the security is working. If the flashing light is bothersome just cover it with electrical tape the same color as the dashboard.
I suppose you could disconnect the battery. That would shut it off but doing so would cause more problems than that light could possibly cause. DO NOT DISCONNECT THE FUSE. What else is on that circuit. Really, just cover the light if it bothers her. It is and of itself harmless.
You have a 12 volt battery with at least 350 cold cranking amps. That light uses less than .03 ohms. It is insignificant. Running the car for one minute recharges to the battery any power that light uses in a two week period. I have left cars in the driveway for more than two months with one of those lights. They start every time.
