Revenge is the main plot, mostly the only plot.

(5,914 posts)Very faithful to the book, and the three-plus hour length really helps it work to a satisfying conclusion.
But yes, it's pretty much the greatest revenge story ever told.

The Denzel version isn't the first. There was a Scot Glen version prior, in the '90s I think.

(14,564 posts)a night time drama called "Revenge" It was delicious the 1st few seasons. The actual goal was revenge. A young child had her father arrested and jailed, where he was killed. She comes back as a grown woman and extracts her revenge against those that conspired to frame her father for the crime they committed and to clear her father's name.

(1,233 posts)I recall a movie I saw as a child, a western. The man had a baby, and the baby was sick- cholera, maybe. People would not help him, wouldn't give him milk for the baby. After the baby died, he went back and killed them. I distinctly remember a scene in which he drowned someone in a bucket of milk.
Anyone else see it? Know the name of it?

I saw it on tv in the late 70's. Came in after the beginning, and didn't watch it to the end. Have tried many times over the years to figure out what it was. Thank you for solving the mystery.

(33,057 posts)The rape ruins the movie.
Rustynaerduwell
(665 posts)You are right. Watched it later uncut and was shocked. Two things though. There is the suggestion she was his killer's lover and she sent him to his death. And, the indifference of the town's people to the rape parallels their indifference to his killing. I wish the scene was never there, but, had I read of it in a book telling this story, I don't think it would have been so traumatic to envision.

(5,321 posts)...I generally dislike westerns and ultra-violent films, but it was "entertaining" to see all the slavers get shot and blowed up real good.
Same thing with Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds." The theater scene where all the nazis get snuffed was satisfying, in a depraved kinda way.

(33 posts)The late Joan Rivers wrote the script. It starred Stockard Canning in the title role, as a unattractive woman who gets bullied by different people in her life. She then has a terrible car accident that requires extensive plastic surgery, which turns her into a gorgeous woman. She then takes out her revenge on those that crushed her when she was ugly.
It would be on the 3 pm afternoon movie on ABC often.
