Morrison (John Wayne) did not join the US Armed Forces during WWII. He was a coward, Jimmy Stewart, among other Hollywood stars, joined the military and served in combat situations. Stewart was a bomber pilot. After the war, he remained in the Air Guard and served along with, and just like, others in the Air Guard.
